I get the emotion behind the points being raised -- but there are a couple of points worth mentioning.
Logically, if Home had the technological capability at the moment to offer a higher active-item limit and a higher total-item limit, they'd probably have done it by now. Doesn't mean they're not working on it, or that it's never going to happen; it just means that a core-client update like that would take a while.
Keep in mind that while Home is a for-profit enterprise, it's also completely free to use. If Home ever went to a subscription model, then that'd be a different story; but as long as it's free, I really can't complain about them wanting to generate revenue from me whenever possible. Home may be a virtual society, but it's still a society run by a business.
Regarding region hopping: while I personally have little issue with it, it's worth remembering that each region of Home is run by a separate business entity -- SCEA, SCEE, SCEJ, etc. -- and thus there's really no financial incentive to make it easier for users to region hop, or to provide auto-translation services.
Trust me, I think nearly everyone shares the frustration over the item limits. But let's say it was raised to one-hundred instead of fifty; how long until people start complaining that it should be raised to two-hundred? There will always be a desire for more.
Should developers stop creating virtual commodities for Home just because of the item limits? Heck no. That's like saying Walmart should scale back on the commodities they offer because I couldn't possibly buy and utilize all of them.
Again, it's worth noting that The Powers That Be are almost certainly aware of the clamoring to raise the item limits. But I'll wager something like that is a massively complicated and expensive process which takes a long time to put together. Let's remember that every time we see a new product launch in Home, it's been in the works for months. Possibly longer. So there's always going to be a time delay between consumer trend and commodity release.
Hope that helps.
