Decorating the Challenge Spaces – the Luxury Glass House

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

The sixth and current offering of a personal space from Sony’s Challenges is an ultra-modern riverside estate with a commanding view of the nearby brightly-lit city in a nighttime setting.

It’s deceptively large, so you’ll need to be careful to not to use up your furniture slots before you’ve finished decorating. This box estate with a loft-style upper floor has no wall-hanging spots for picture frames or items, but with three all-glass walls, this isn’t much of a loss. The estate has only one spawn spot, but there are open double doors to the deck — and the ability to lift items over the railing into the loft — that allows for the placement of almost any items you desire to put into these areas.

There are also some unusual features, such as the previously mentioned three walls of glass that go from from the two-story ceiling to the floor; plexiglass stairs up to the loft area that are suspended from the ceiling; and neon blue track lighting in the ceiling, which also has a skylight reminiscent of the Harbour apartment.

To keep with the theme, you’ll want to pull out your most modern and luxurious items to decorate this personal estate. The free couch and chair from the Vendetta game at Abstergo Labs would make a great start here, especially when contrasted with the wood floors in the area in front of the kitchen. Statues, such as the Pegasus reward statue from Lockwood’s Dream Yachts, would go very well here. Look through all of your current items for furniture and accessories that seem fitting, such as large vases. If you have them or want to purchase furniture for this space, any of Game Mechanics’ “Elegant Furniture” line would suit this space very well. Look for the elegant chair, the elegant sofa or elegant sofa with canopy, one of the elegant dining tables, the elegant outdoor or indoor bar with chairs, the elegant swing sofa available in two sizes, and the elegant table with chairs in two different heights. Five of these items and the magic leaf rug are included in their Elegant Furniture bundle, and nine items, including all three sizes of the elegant dining table, are included in the Ultimate Elegant Furniture bundle.

Vase of Red Roses

The lower floor has an open-concept floor plan that allows for different design choices. Logically, you’ll want to place a dining table under the large chandelier, in the area to the right of the double door entrance. The solid wall in this area has two shelves with spot lighting that allow you to display your collectibles, such as vases or flower arrangements, or perhaps something a bit more masculine for the guys. With a sideboard, a floor lamp or two, and a large rug under the table of your choice, this room is complete.

This floor has a built-in kitchen already in place for you, to the left of the entrance. Since the kitchen has all you need in the way of major appliances, all you will need to add are the little things that make a space more homey, like a rug, canisters, toaster, coffee-maker or teapot, and place settings or food items on the counter in front of the three stools. You also may want to expand the counter or cupboard space with kitchen items of this type that you already own. There is plenty of room on either end of the kitchen to do so. If you don’t have items of this type, Granzella sells a three-piece counter set that contrasts nicely with the three tones of wood already in this area.

The upstairs loft is the perfect space for a complete bathroom in the tiled area at the top of the stairs — with the addition of a few room dividers for privacy — and a bedroom in the partially carpeted area next to it. The tiled area can easily accommodate a shower, bathtub, sink, toilet, and bathroom accessories. If you like the idea of a fireplace in your bedroom, this is the perfect space to add one. Any of the fireplaces for sale in Home will fit nicely against the solid wall, between the blind-covered windows. In addition to a fireplace, you can easily fit a large bed, two end tables, a dresser and/or chest of drawers, a couch and a coffee table in this space and still have plenty of room to walk around.

Dream Island - Barbeque

There is a large U-shaped deck to decorate with any of your outdoor items, such as several lounges; barbeque grills, such as the free one from Lockwood’s Dream Island; or a table with an umbrella and chairs, such as the reward items from Juggernaut’s Serenity Plaza. Those of you who own three of the four original Sony Mansion sections will have a small yacht parked at the dock. If you don’t have the yacht, you may want to add something to the lower portion of the dock area, like the “Fort Bellamy Watercraft Seat” reward from Lockwood.

Being a girl, my point of view is feminine, but this estate could easily be made into a great place for the guys. I suggest that you use your own collectibles on the shelves, black or dark leather furniture in the living room, and one of the dark wood bathroom sets that are available. There are several large wood beds and other bedroom furniture that can also be used to make this estate reflect your masculinity. If you have the LOOT television or want to purchase it, this would be a great place to have a “movie night” with your friends. Why shouldn’t you guys have a little luxury in your Home lives, too?

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.

Had most of this in mind already. Decorated it that way before I even read this. Does that mean I think feminine? This is spot on.

It’s a good space but the lone furniture spawn point on the bottom floor can make it difficult to place some items. Especially those you want to place outside on the deck. For example, Lockwood’s giftable hot tub won’t fit through the doors and as a result of this, it took some serious improvising for me to get this item out on the deck. Totally worth it though, because the hot tub positioned out on the deck is an awesome spot to view both the water and the city.
