Decorating the Challenge Spaces: PetrolHead Personal Space

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

The fifth (and currently latest) personal estate to have been won through the Sony’s challenge program was a garage space, and it’s generally considered to be the the least favorite of the challenge reward spaces so far. Some people have said that they don’t like it at all and didn’t bother to earn it. I’m not sure why that is — unless it’s just too masculine for the ladies, but too clean for the guys, perhaps. For me, this is one of the simplest estates to decorate and stay with the theme, and it’s fun, too.

Just imagine you own or frequent this space in the real world. What would you expect to see there, in addition to what’s there already?

The space is a high-end garage with two-levels, decorated in red and white. Palm trees and city buildings can be viewed through large glazed windows, so I imagine the garage would be located in California, Florida, or perhaps Hawaii. The lower floor is where the repair work on the cars takes place. You’ll find three work bays for the vehicles here. One of the bays has a vehicle on a full lift, which makes it level with the second floor. In addition to the cars, this space is partially decorated with benches, tools, traffic cones, tires, and a wheel rim collection on the wall. There are two large fans revolving on the wall to circulate the air. It also has a large open area in front of the garage doors that’s perfect for adding additional cars to this space. The smaller L-shaped upper area is reached by a ramp from the lower area and it’s the perfection place to make into the reception and customer waiting area. Here you will find the truck “show piece” of the garage, painted with flames and a skull decal and decked out with all terrain tires.

Contender Stock Car Bundle

As for cars to add here, although most of the vehicles offered on Home are locomotions, there are a few decorating items available. Sony offers the racecar value pack of four vehicles (also sold separately) from their Luxury (Racing) Owner’s Box line; LOOT has two mysterious MIB vehicles, including a “flying” one; PSTalent sells Junkmobile Sofa Radios in six colors; and Game Mechanics’ has the Contender Stock Car Bundle. GM’s vehicles can also be purchased separately, and you can sit in their cars and race the engines. All of these vehicles are full-sized.

Also, in the lower area of this personal space, you can add items such as the oil drum reward from Heavy Water, the tool chest that is a reward from the RC Rally space and the torn scrap tire from the fossil-digging game at Southern Island Hideaway, to add a sense that the garage is in use. If you are purchasing for this space, JAM has a five-piece “RaceOn Furniture Bundle” that includes two tool chests and a tire changer that would look great in the work area. Sony’s 迭acing Box Deco Value Pack・furniture bundle has eight pieces, which includes a very nice racing tool chest you could use here. Game Mechanics has a fun little item, called the 典ire Cooler・which you could put here for when the mechanics need a refresher.

For the receptionist area, you can use any counter you may own (or the racing bar for a fun twist) and add a few item such as the Mini Scion tC reward from Central Plaza 2011 or Ford rewards like the MP3 player docking station or the car keys, if you have them, or a computer or other items you may own that look like they would go in an office, such as the free red stapler from LOOT or a mini-fridge. You might want to add the free vending machine from Namco Bandai with the “park recycling container” reward from Acorn Meadows Park, to make sure the customers re-cycle. Just add a chair behind the desk, a few of these items, and you’re all set.

Racing Box Deco Value Pack

In the customer seating area, as mentioned previously, Sony, JAM Games and Game Mechanics, sell the perfect bundles for this space, depending on your style choice. Sony’s 迭acing Box Deco Value Pack・furniture bundle includes a couch, coffee table, wall art, dining table, chair, bar, and trophy case, all in black, chrome, and glass that could be used for a very sophisticated look here. JAM’s “RaceOn Furniture Bundle” includes a sofa and “car seat” which might be more suitable for the down-to-earth guys who are decorating this estate. For a fun, thematic, and slightly masculine look, you can purchase the inexpensive four piece set from GM called the “Racing Furniture Bundle”. It has a racing couch and chair, both with wheels and an engine coffee table and end table. You might also enjoy one or more of the funny “Bug Car Chairs” from this developer.

This would be a great place to add some of your game cabinets such as Galaga, Ice Breaker, WipeEout 2D, or any you have purchased, for the “customers” to enjoy while waiting. You also might want to have the trophy case here and add a few of your own collected trophies on top and beside it, such as those from Hudson Gate, the Minicart race or RedBull rewards. If you have the red rope reward from Digital Leisure, you can use this to block the “customers” from the vehicle lift area.

Of course, there are still more items that you may have been rewarded or own, or will want to purchase that suit this space. After looking through your furniture items, I recommend checking AlphaZone4.com for other items that might fit here. Be sure to check for rewards, as well as purchasable items. Happy hunting and happy decorating to you!

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.
