Closing Summer

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker

I didn’t have an elaborate name for this machinima. It started off as a simple fashion shoot to showcase some of the recent clothing I’d purchased, along with my friend BeautyByMe’s styling efforts. Aside from good taste in clothing, she is a self-proclaimed master interior designer, and we both love what we do. BeautyByMe is genuinely inspiring with the work she does.

This was a bit of a challenging piece to put together, simply because the project had to be restarted four different times due to software crashes. What’s interesting, though, is that as you recut a new iteration from scratch, with the general details of the previous cut still in your mind, it strengthens you as an editor.

Searching for a title can sometimes be the hardest part. Usually, a title comes to mind very quickly; indeed, projects can sometimes spring just from the sound of a cool title. But sometimes it’s a struggle to quantify what you’re trying to say. In this case, it’s a sort of end-of-season theme; many summers have come and gone in PlayStation Home, but the allure of evolving digital fashion trends inside this virtual world has remained a constant source of interest (and revenue) from the beginning. So hopefully, as we move into autumn, we’ll enjoy the closing moments of summer.
