P.T.

Things are really heating up on the PS4 front, and this week Sony kept the momentum going by announcing not only new titles, like The Last Tinker by PlayStation Home’s own LOOT, but some old favorites like Journey from thatgamecompany and The Unfinished Swan by Giant Sparrow will be landing on the PS4.
There was also one mystery title, simply called P.T.
Just what is P.T.? Well, P.T. stands for Playable Teaser, and it’s a full-immersion surprise experience for the latest Silent Hill franchise title, called Silent Hills. The game is available for free in the PlayStation store under the dummy studio name 7780.
Silent Hills is going to be a blockbuster. Do you know how I know? Well, for starters, Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are teaming up. That right there is enough to give anyone a shiver of excitement. Further, Kojima promises to create a game so scary that you will, in his words, “s–t your pants.”
After playing P.T., I know what he means. I luckily didn’t soil any pants, but at the same time I’m glad I didn’t eat at Taco Bell prior, because Kojima and del Toro aren’t fooling around. The playable demo is as scary as it comes.
The game preys on all our darkest fears and is an insane experience. The game puts you in a mysterious house with looping corridors. You must discover clues, both visual and auditory, to somehow find your way out. What’s amazing about P.T. is how difficult it is; this isn’t some rushed demo on tracks that hurries your way to the reveal. It’s a free-standing game in and of itself, and if you don’t make it to the end reveal, well, too bad. I was one of the unlucky ones who didn’t make it through, but loved every heart-racing, panic-jumping moment.
P.T. lit up social media, not only for its surprise announcement as a resuscitation (of sorts) of a much beloved franchise, but because is it also the start of a new meeting of the minds between Hollywood and the gaming industry, with heroes from both industries creating an amazing experience. Silent Hills will also feature cult hero actor Norman Reedus, of The Walking Dead, to play the main protagonist. Not only will Reedus be lending his voice for the game, but he literally is the character — and the likeness is startling.
If the goal of P.T. was to create a buzz, they succeeded in spades. I am a huge Silent Hill fan, and have bought and played them all multiple times, so they don’t need to sell me. I’m already hooked. They have, however, created a special Silent Hill kind of hell for all us fans to languish away in while we wait until the games come out.

Okay seriously, I’ve never thought I would own a Silent Hill game until now.
Anywhere Hideo-san goes, the money follows. He is one insane producer and he is just making absolute history in gaming to even team up with Del Toro!!
Great write up, Ted! I can’t wait for this game to come out.
The effort they put into making a pre video game for a upcoming video game I think has gone beyond anything I’ve seen before. Totally classy!
I can’t wait for this!
