Lockwood Content This Week: Anime and Powersuits
by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker
What can I say about the anime genre in PlayStation Home?
It made Jason go bonkers when Galaxy Express 999 finally crossed over to the virtual world seamlessly. And my hope for Tekkaman Blade style suits from Lockwood remains unabated.
But in the rise of a returning mega-popular anime series, gracing TV screens and computer monitors across the country, it’s not hard to spot the subtle references and bit of inspiration from the new Sailor Moon Crystal show in Lockwood’s latest offerings — and that’s not a bad thing.
This week is jampacked with an overflow of anime goodness from Lockwood, with a dash of new Figment classy clothing for the mature-minded.
Anime Sailor Girl Bikini is an interesting take on the mundane typical designs of what you’re used to in Home. Apart from being beach attire, they can be donned legitimately with a pair of good thigh-high boots to add to typical anime characteristics. Personally, I’m not quite there yet on the designs, but they are, nevertheless, cute.
To compliment the apparel, Lockwood’s also releasing Photobooth Interaction Packs for you and that “BFF” in your life to snap pics with. I’m really intrigued with these interaction poses, for this is something I would love to see more of in Home. If you’re familiar with the Photo Booth at the Glittering Sands Beach (which was the first to feature this interactivity in Home), then you’ll enjoy Lockwood’s riff on this concept.
As a guilty pleasure, I have to confess my infatuation for Lockwood’s Medusa hairstyle line. For years, this catalog has never ceased to amaze me with its imaginative take on some of the more creative styles that have graced the Home stores. For the most part here, the Heroes and Heroines designs are a bit less than what you’re used to seeing in Home: the eccentric styles of the usual anime flair aren’t seen here.
This isn’t a bad thing, though, to say the least. In fact, not every hairstyle doesn’t have to be all crazy like Yu-Gi-Oh. A very nice change of scenery these are, and definitely one I’m going to get my hands on.
The Figment line is widely renowned for its classy, elegant yet powerful clothing that appeased fans such as myself with releases of urbane styles for gentlemen and sophisticated lines for the ladies.
One thing that I noticed from the Figment line of apparel is that, for the female catalog, it’s mostly comprised of one-piece dresses. I don’t have any qualms with the items whatsoever, but you can wonder just when the line will offer some suitable slacks for the female avatar, in order to put together some chic, modern designs.
Aside from three color choices per gender, males will enjoy another solid suit selection to add to their wardrobe, while females will have more clothing options to play with, from a Blazer with collared shirt to a skirt and slacks.
Overall, this is an exciting week for anime and Figment fans. As summer is nearing its end, Lockwood is still heating stores up with their latest imaginative commodities.
