Landscapes: Home

by Burbie52, HSM team writer

I recently wrote an article about the fantastic art that’s found in video gaming over the years. As I discussed this subject with people, I started to think about Home and the remarkable places we have to visit and explore here as well. I have to say there is an amazing amount of work put into creating the environments we all walk through in Home whenever we visit here.

I’ve bought many personal spaces in Home over the past five years I’ve been here. Unlike some of my friends who buy all of them, I’ve had to be more particular about it, mostly for financial reasons — and the first thing I always look for when purchasing a space is the environment around me. I love landscapes, and the ability to walk through a piece of art is a fantastic experience for me.

Some spaces I bought simply for the interior they offered me to decorate; but many I bought for the exterior surroundings that I could only see and not touch or change, with the exception of diurnal controls. Having a beautiful or moving environment around gives me a much richer experience to enjoy.

The very first space I bought in Home, the Waterfall Terrace, was acquired because of the wonderful exteriors it offered. To this day it is still one of my favorite spaces — and always will be, as it was my first. Many others have filled my memory cache since then, and I will continue to buy those that strike me until the content in Home stops being produced. Home has a lot of incredibly rich environments to immerse yourself in, and like the last article it can’t be expressed very well in words.

So I’m dabbling for the first time in creating videos — even if they are more like slideshows at this point — and having a lot of fun with them.

I hope you will indulge me again as I show you another one about the wonderful landscapes seen throughout Home. Most of the vistas displayed in this video can be purchased, and I’ve no doubt you’ll recognize most if not all of them.

Home may be a bit old now, but it still has graphics that can bring you into a place with certain mood or feeling to it. Cutteridge is downright creepy, as is the Zombie Deadquarters.  Midway has all of the zany feel of a real carnival, as does their personal space. Cutthroats will have you feeling like you stepped back into the past a couple hundred years, as will the Assassin’s Creed apartment. But the feeling I treasure most in Home is one of tranquility, and many of the places I have chosen for myself and this video reflect that.

Try going to some of your spaces and take the time to smell the roses, as it were. Home may be winding down a bit, but it isn’t on its last legs yet. Soak up the atmosphere that Home has to offer and learn to appreciate it once again. While I was taking pictures for this article I was surprised how these places I hadn’t visited in months could make me feel.

Great slide show, Burbie. I really enjoyed it and you picked the just-right music for it, too.

;^) That was… moving, Burbie. You’re right; older spaces we haven’t visited in ages can still bring a smile when we return to them again.
