Phantom Pain E3 2014 Trailer
by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker
I honestly don’t know what to say about Kojima-san anymore. I can fill this article on how he is, without a doubt, the most talented, creative video game producer to ever exist. I can’t imagine how some can create such a flawless phenomena that is the Metal Gear Solid series and tell a compelling story through 3-5 hours of game play.
If you think the word “flawless” was a bit over the top, then keep reading — because I don’t think I’m done with this sort of hype just yet.
This series has so many ups (the Solid series, handheld iterations, story, character designs and development) and very little downs (a heavily mistranslated, incomplete localized North American version of Metal Gear for the NES, and a non-canon, sans Kojima directed Snake’s Revenge) that tramples on almost any Hollywood hit you can think of.
Maybe it’s the reason why, when you throw the name “Metal Gear Solid” around in tinseltown, they would know of the game’s existence. Producer Avi Arad would know this; he’s the man who was responsible for getting Kiefer Sutherland on board to voice the Phantom Pain’s protagonist, Big Boss (dubbed as “Punished Snake”).
Or, perhaps, this installment is going to possibly be the monumental “–BLEEP– hits the fan” game to ever exist within the series (or any game) ever.
And I wish to be clear on this: the E3 2014 Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain trailer you’re about to view, if you’re one of the three people on the planet who hasn’t watched it yet, is going to be something you’ve been waiting for for a very long time. Kojima Productions have always been the type to create subliminal messages and teasers upon big announcements on what shrouds the world. In case you’re not up to speed on what has happened, Peace Walker is the bed that started the cataclysmic events went spilled over to Ground Zeroes. From there, a chain of events that happened and it all leads to game that you see here.
The story of Big Boss (the protagonist who, later, serves as the antagonist for earlier iterations Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) has been amazing, to say the least. Everything you saw from Snake Eater up to Peace Walker is lighthearted, in comparison to what you’re about to see here. I’ve always been hype about this series, but the level of it now is something that has never happened in my life.
So without spoiling it too much, here’s what you will catch: if you’re a MGS fan (such as myself) you will see a lot of elements and key notes in this game that will give you the best teasers of what this game will offer. This is a level of MGS that you’ve never experienced before. You don’t want to miss this — not one bit.
And here, I’m crying on why I can’t play this game any sooner. My apologies for the massive hype here, but sometimes a game truly is worth it. Enjoy!
