Review: Lockwood’s Dream DMV

by ted2112, HSM team writer

Lockwood has been on a roll lately, with the Dream series of personal estates and their new loyalty program, LKWD Life, undoubtedly chewing up a lot of server bandwidth. However, LKWD’s latest masterpiece, the Dream DMV, is just a cut above. This new space combines not only the strengths of Lockwood but solves the problem of what to do with your avatar when you are waiting around with nothing to do in Home.

The way it works is ingenious: as you enter your personal space, you are given a number. Then you wait. It’s as simple as that.

The longer you wait around in the Dream DMV, the more tokens you will earn. Eventually, your number will get called, and that’s where the real fun begins. You can trade the tokens in for in game rewards like personalized license plates or organ donor cards to impress your friends. Lockwood has also made it interesting with a mini game that has random-generated characters which spawn in the room and tell you boring stories about their first car or how expensive everything has become. You can choose reaction commands like, “Huh, mcgruffthat’s really interesting, tell me more,” or, “No hablo ingles,” or simply use the regular game menu and block that character.

If that’s not amazing enough, the space itself is a testament to real-world detail. The audio background walla reproduces random coughing and sighs. The Dream DMV is also appointed with creaky wooden benches and aging posters on the wall. My favorite is the McGruff the Crime Dog reward poster that’s reminds us to “take a bite out of crime.” Brilliant!

The mind-numbing realism is a testament to the designers; you actually start to question whether of not it’s all worth it and how pointless life really is after just a few moments of being inside this gem of a space. It’s as if Lockwood figured out how to program the dark veil of apathy and desperation itself.

If I had to choose the very best feature of the Dream DMV, it’s has to be the simulated eye test. It’s a fun little game where you randomly hit hsmplatethe D-pad buttons on your controller to do something you’re not totally sure of, involving a blurry letter E. You can’t lose this game, because the simulated attendant isn’t paying attention to what you’re doing, and it’s a great way to earn extra tokens.

The Lockwood Dream DMV is only available for a short time through a confusing online form. If you can’t find the form, don’t worry. Just keep looking. Call for assistance between normal business hours and someone will eventually assist you.

  • Fun Mini-Games
  • Great Rewards
  • So Real You Can Almost Smell It
  • No Gift Machine
  • Can Cause Drowsiness
  • Long Wait For Number To Be Called

This place sounds amazing! So realistic!

I just hope that LKWD can recreate some Scottish Council Tax offices so I can share the wrist-slitting depression of being told that since you earned more money LAST YEAR, they’re gonna rip your wages to bits this year, when you’re already struggling to pay inflated housing and heating costs from harsh winter conditions!

    It’ll be so super-dooper!

Hopefully they’ll throw in the odd Scottish homeless bum who’s pee’d in the corner and refuses to leave for that extra special touch of realism!

That was hilarious although Lockwood might call it the DVLA.

;^) Truly inspired. You dreamed this up during your last DMV visit, right?
