Home’s Music Unlimited Club

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker

So, how are your travels over to the David Guetta World public space now? From my perspective the place is a bit dead. And to think: the space had potential to really become a social hotspot, with the fun hues swaying about…all just to be met with a bevy of cliche elements that was as much of a fad as Hanson’s “Hmm Bop” travesty.

We often like to remember and cherish our time in Home — but there are some travails best forgotten. Honestly, it’s how I’ve felt about the David Guetta World space. As stated before, I appreciate the work put into creating it and I applaud Sony for even at least paying some sort of attention to the social scene, because lets face it, I haven’t had such interactions since the Stereophonics’ short-lived feature in the Singstar VIP Lounge.

While I was roaming around Home, looking for something to do, I managed to catch one of my friends — who just so happened to dwell in this space that wasn’t very familiar to me; one that I’d mistaken for a hidden private space that was somewhere deep in the “More Spaces” option in the navigation menu. Always one to be curious, I hit the X button on my controller and warped into this public space.

The scenery is striking, with blue lines and blaring lights; you spawn close to the dance floor, and immediately see a bit of a resemblance to David Guetta World’s architecture, with familiar designs that seem reused. But then something magical happened: Hed Kandi!

If you want to see me go into hyper mode and flail about in giddy glee, play a musical score from any Hed Kandi album and prepare to be thrilled by the spectacle. I’m a huge sucker for house music, especially when you brand their name to the mix.

So, hearing their musical piece was automatic dance mode.

And yes, the public space also meets with my appeal. Everything about the space subtly (and overtly) urges you to subscribe to the Music Unlimited application, which I happily did. Now I can enjoy my Hed Kandi anywhere I go, anytime. Why, I’m actually playing pieces from their album right now, attempting not to be distracted by the tele-tron looping the video of Hed Kandi in Ibiza.

You can also count how many times I’ve spammed, “HED KANDI IS HERE! HED KANDI IS HERE! HED KANDI IS HERE!” in the chat log on Home; it’s captured on video, but I think I’ll save that one for some sort of a cutting-room-floor special.

In seriousness: I’m truly excited to see Home finally embracing its identity as a social MMO, and featuring music from one of my favorite record labels in the industry. I had a blast meeting some of the nicer people there, along with making some new friends and finally letting loose with my nDreams dancing LMOs. Fun was had, indeed.

I could expound further about this space, but instead I hope you enjoy this quick promotional video. There are a few flaws riddled within this presentation, so bear with me on the mistakes, as I’m getting comfortable with some new equipment.

I do look forward to seeing how Sony (and Home’s third-party developers) will contribute more to the social aspects of Home. 2014’s off to an exciting start, with some hot feature deployments that make it feel more dynamic than it’s been in some time. If you’re looking for a much-needed place to legitimately shake your rump with great music in the background, the Music Unlimited space is just for you. If you’re not there now, head there and have fun. If you’re already there, then why are you reading this?
