An Oasis in Home

by Susan, HSM team writer

When Lockwood started the LKWD Life program on PlayStation Home, all we saw were glimmers of what the the top-tier prize would be for those of us who embraced the Lockwood lifestyle. It took reaching level 10, and 500 points, before the keys of ownership were handed over to you. People are now finally reaching the level in which the personal space called the Lockwood Oasis becomes available to them, and I have heard nothing but cheers from them.

I know at first people were reluctant to go and complete the tasks for this place, because, well, it’s a free space — and the track record of free spaces actually appeasing the community of avatars hasn’t seen many checkmarks in the win column lately.  Lockwood has changed that perception, in my opinion, with this reward item for those who put in the time and energy to be bestowed such a grand space. This space cost the community nothing, except the time it takes to gather the points. You don’t have to own anything Lockwood and you can still be rewarded the place — which is amazing.

At first it was exciting to log into Home and gather up my LKWD Life points, but as they continued to add more locations where the points could be collected, the time it took to gather up those available points also added up. Adding an LMO while perusing the various locations further reduced the time I spent collecting those much-desired points.

The place is typical Lockwood. If I had closed my eyes before arriving I would know it was a Lockwood creation. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing — at all. I expect a certain level of ambiance from their personal and public locations, and they have always been consistent in their design applications. For me, the first thing that I did was spend some time looking around at the vast amount of flora everywhere — and the closer I looked at the wood they used to construct the planters and plants they had installed, I swear they resembled the ones from the Dream Yachts; talk about cutting down on material costs, if they’re reusing assets. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dream Yacht was anchored out there somewhere off on the horizon.

You will find the usual placement of waterfalls with the thunderous roar we have come to expect nowadays. There are infinity pools to swim in, and an area where you wish you could shower off before heading inside. The estate looks to be nestled in a rocky alcove with the vast sea of PlayStation Home out in the front. A sandy beach lays before the house; too bad we can’t go down there and ride our horses along the shoreline, or have a bonfire. There are several places to sit down outside and admire the view, and there’s an area that looks great for entertaining your friends.

I’m digging the architectural style of the house and the layout of the outside as well. There is exterior lighting throughout that accents the place very nicely. Large windows that you will need a ladder to clean — which are not tinted to protect you from the sun — are used as exterior walls for the house. There are fifteen wall hanging slots, and a deck up on the second floor where you can suntan all day long. I would buy this place, had it become available that way. I would love to see this place as a clubhouse skin. This is truly an oasis in my book and it is now my default personal space.

The only negative thing I’ve heard about the place deals with the two windows in the front of the house on the bottom floor; they allow you to pass furniture through it, or even go as far as to put items halfway through it and leave it, so it is on both sides. The other thing that’s been coming up is the issue of chat bubbles not showing up, or nothing above our heads in the way of ID tags or status, and I am sure they are working on those issues.

I was surprised that we didn’t see any geckos, iguanas or monkeys somewhere on the estate.

This week, Lockwood announced that the level cap will be raised, and that they will be adding the Dream Rainforest to the list of available locations you can access to collect the life points. Very curious to see if they will offer another personal space when we  reach the next level cap. Sony started the loyalty program trend when they created x7 and followed up with the Diamond Beach Yacht Club, and it’s great to see PlayStation Home developers jumping on that bandwagon.
