Hey Saturday Sun: A Fashion Stimulus
by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker
Lets explore good music for a moment: it’s not what it used to be any more.
I remember where I could tolerate my local radio station and listen to classic tracks from Run DMC, Chico DeBarge, Incubus, Third Eye Blind, Lit, and heck, even Godsmack (just to name a plenty) and make a theme out of the songs. For instance, one Saturday in 1999, it was a gorgeous morning and my brother and I made a spontaneous plan to jump up, get ready and head over to Six Flags. Upon entering our vehicle, My Own Worst Enemy by Lit started playing on my radio, greatly complimenting the start of a beautiful day.
Of course, we all can think up a few songs that we admire which speaks to our personalities in some way, or have given us some boost of motivation throughout our day. In its purest form, music can reshape us — mold us with an astounding sense of synergy that can transform a rough time in the office into a brighter day, or a peaceful walk through the night in the woods into a chilling experience.
In this case, for my fashion presentation, Hey Saturday Sun 2, my experience was something a bit more confusing, yet comforting.
The motivation struck me when I was looking over Fashion Senses and Lovelace Creations Vol. 1. What is fashion ultimately created for? In my view, it’s meant to stimulate the creative mind into creating fashionable designs based upon mood and energy. Fashion, like music, is designed to create mood.
My purpose for this was to explore the depth of some of the recent commodities released, from Billabong items to the floral long sleeve top you can obtain from the challenge mini-game, without straying away from a “bright” theme I attempted to capture. This video has a few more effects in it than previous efforts, notably to appear more like a movie than your typical fashion video. If you truly enjoy this video and its attendant music, then be sure to check out the music group’s website. They have a wonderful selection of albums that I’m sure will heighten your senses and mood if you allow them so.
I hope you enjoy.
