NatureScape: Zen Garden

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker

This isn’t a fashion video. And I will forewarn you: what you’re about to see is a video over nine minutes long that captures some very scenic settings of a few personal spaces that I own. This kind of video presentation has been in my head for a while, but I wanted to put the experiment out there and see if it resonates with others.

The purpose here is to immerse you into a lucid, tranquil environment: to put aside harsh realities and instead focus on peace to channel one’s true goal: integrating tranquility with oneself. I desired to do this with settings and low-key zen music, believing that ultimately what an estate should convey well is a particular emotion. Although I’ve enhanced some of the spaces you’re about to see with an active item, everything you see here is nothing but nature taking its course.

I don’t often see this sort of machinima in Home;  I think it’s important, though, since many of us often find ourselves caught up in the scenery of a particular setting and find ourselves losing track of time as we simply marvel at it. I have a particular love of nature videos I watched after children’s programming, and thought it would also be cool to recreate this in Home.

Depending on feedback, I may explore doing more presentations like this. This isn’t a conventional Home machinima, but the medium should be experimented with and stretched. Hopefully you derive some aesthetic pleasure from this.
