DCUO: Armories Sneak Peek

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer & filmmaker

Recently there was a “ninja” livestream of a brand-new feature that’s coming to DC Universe Online: Armories.

For those that aren’t in the know, it was announced earlier this year (during E3 to be exact) that this feature will create a totally unique experience to the new players and veterans alike. Though nothing was divulged –aside from the basics for what’s to come — it’s nonetheless caused a tremendous amount of hype within the community.

But with the holiday season in full swing, Jens “Spytle” Andersen and Ted “Mepps” Stone were more than gracious enough to give us a work-in-progress sneak  peek on one of the biggest game-changing features to ever come to the MMO. They’ve discussed what you can do with the armories, how they will affect your gameplay, and moreso the effectiveness of the items. They will be base items, and while it’s shown in the presentation as they could only be placed on the amenity nodes, you can set them anywhere in free mode.

And I wish to reiterate this again: this will completely change the way you play this game. For starters, you will be able to imprint not only gear loadouts and styles (though this is a fantastic idea), but power and skill point loadouts as well. This will also mean how you approach PvE missions and PvP matches changes.

Basically, you’re no longer exclusive to just one role.

This is a VERY big concept for those that are exclusive to such roles. You’ll be able top-spec your respective role gear and save them to your Armories, and it will be very important to at least have two in your loadout. I personally feel that if the Armories aren’t account-bound, then make them available to all characters when purchasing at least one, as that would be too cost-inefficient for me to purchase one for each character. That’s pretty much the only logistical detail I’m worried about.

Otherwise, this is an astounding presentation and I’m definitely looking forward to reviewing this once the release is solidified. There are other features here that the duo touch upon, but to avoid giving you everything in the video, I’ll let you see for yourself. Happy Holidays!
