The Top Ten SCEA Home Value Items for October
by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer
Like beauty, value is in the eye of the beholder.
In other words, what one person sees as value, another person may not. Value, as I understand it, is a cost-to-worth relationship, and I can only tell you what I perceive as having value in Home purchases. Following are the items that I consider are the best value for the past month, and I’ll tell you why I think so, for each item or package.
This isn’t a list of my favorite things for the month and they’re not always the least expensive item(s), either. It should be no surprise that bundles make up the majority of the best values on Home, as combined items sell for less in a pack than they do purchased separately. You may not want every item in a bundle, but when you like most of the items included, they can be a bargain.
Note: Although these items are numbered, it’s not meant to be a top value to least value list, but rather my value choices for the month overall. I didn’t include free items and I also didn’t try to choose one of each type of item, such as estate, locomotion, furniture pack, clothing item, etc. If I had this would have been a somewhat different list.
You may notice that my Top Ten list has 12 items or packs. I’ve decided that months with five Wednesdays entitle me to mention two more value selections.
1. madmunki’s Spun Mustache Bundle for $ 2.99 It’s about time we females were able to wear mustaches too! As LMOs this set of three mustaches can be worn by females or males and they let you express your mood, also. The orange mustache changes between happy and angry statuses; the purple mustache changes between happy and confused statuses; and the white mustache changes between happy and sad statuses. They each have their own style and they are sold separately for $1.49 each.
2. Atom Republic’s Personal Transporters bundle or Monowheels bundle for $8.49 Before the developer made these items, they offered the Home user base a vote on the styles they preferred to see made. These two styles of personal transporters are the outcome of that vote. Having direct input into future items offered on Home is very rare and it’s interesting to see the end result. Either bundle of five offers a large discount and any of the transporters can be purchased separately for $2.99 in the various colors, including my personal favorite, yellow.
3. VEEMEE’s Swarms – Bundle for $5.49 The ways we can transform our avatars are getting more and more interesting. Just compare the old beagle suit to any of the animal avatars we are offered today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring! The new swarms on sale in October take this transformation capability to a whole new and really fun level. I suggest you pick up the bundle of three (dragonflies, bees or butterflies) or your favorite for $2.99 and head over to Acorn Meadows Park where you’ll fit in beautifully with the natural setting.
4. Sony Originals’ Shrink Potion for $1.49 Just like babies, puppies, and kittens, miniatures are just so adorable. This has to be one of Sony’s best ideas for Home ever and it’s offered at a great price. The potion is not only a lot of fun in and of itself, but it brings back usefulness to a lot of old outfits we’ve put into storage. Lately I’ve seen people wearing outfits that I haven’t seen in years. While miniaturized and standing still, your avatar will have several animations, including looking up, swaying back and forth, and waving. While running, you will have bonus speed.
5. nDreams’ BoxBeats: Horror for $2.99 I’m sure the developer introduced this item in October on purpose, but the timing was great for all of us who love to decorate a personal space or two for Halloween and invite friends over for a tour or party. The sound effects of this article are perfect for adding to the atmosphere that we are creating for the season — or at any time of the year — in any space that has a Gothic style, such as the Wizard’s Den, Gothic Manor or the Gothic version of the Ballroom.
6. Atom Republic’s sneakers for $0.99 I’m recommending these sneakers for the style and due to the variety that is offered. I’m not even sure how many choices in patterns and colors are available right now. Call them re-skins, if you like, but I personally want a lot of choices in my clothing articles and Atom Republic is offering just that for the guys and for the ladies with this footwear. And really, bat sneakers offered in October — how perfect was that?
7. Game Mechanics’ All Spaces SeaClyff for $24.99 I don’t believe anyone will be surprised that I believe this bundle is a bargain. I thought the price of the personal space alone was a great value, and for just another $5.00 you can have the club space (sold separately for $14.99) and the Pulp Music Radio (sold for $2.99) in addition. And don’t forget with this bundle you get the rewards offered from the estate, including the solitaire game that rewards your friends and theirs, also. And if you’re looking for new furniture to decorate with, check out GM’s two latest packs, the Elegant Furniture Bundle and the Ultimate Elegant Furniture Bundle.
8. Toylogic, Inc.’s LMO’s for $1.99 I love to see new developers (or developers that are new to North America) offering content for Home, when it’s well done and well-priced. Although LMOs are certainly not a new idea for Home, most of these offerings have a new look and they all have a great price. Two of the seven current styles (Ladybug Wings and the Floating Flower) offer colors choices also.
9. Lockwood’s Cave-people Clothing Pack – Bear $2.99 If you were lucky enough to receive the Prehistoric Valley personal estate as a gift (or if you gifted yourself) and you like to suit your outfit to your surroundings, these Caveman and Cavewoman packs are perfect for you. These six piece bundles are offered for both genders at a great discount and they include a suitable hairdo. There are also jaguar skin two-piece outfits for 256 tokens in the gift machine. Since these outfits indicate they are made from specific animal skins, I’m wondering if we’ll see more choices in the future. I hope so!
10. nDreams’ Masquerade Ball – Gothic Bundle for $6.99 What could be more perfect for a Gothic party and dance any time of the year, than a Gothic Ballroom? And how great is it that you can have a clubhouse skin to throw a large party in and a personal estate for a smaller get together? This bundle, including four furniture items, is offered at just about half of the price of the items sold separately, which makes it a top value choice, also.
11. Lockwood’s Bride’s Big Day Pack – Black for $2.99 Not everyone may like the idea of a bride dressed in black, but if you look past that you’ll see that the dress in this bundle makes a perfect formal dress. As the dress is sold separately for $1.99 and the adorable matching shoes are sold for $.99, you may as well pick up the bundle and collect the wedding ring and hairdo with veil for free. Who knows? You may want to have a Gothic wedding in Home some day, ladies.
12. Toylogics’ Rainbow Galoshes with Rainbows for $.99 Now and then an inexpensive and fun item can be a real value item. These rain boots come in five happy colors (including yellow) for guys and girls and they do double duty as a clothing item and mood expresser. After all, who could help but be happy with a wonderful rainbow floating over their head?
Honorable mentions: nDreams’ World Flag Icons Bundle for $2.49 Sixteen fun little items sold separately for $.99 – what else needs to be said? Codeglue’s Thunderstorm – Set for $ 2.99 Dani hits another home run. Lockwood’s Cheerleader Pom Poms – for $ 0.49 New colors (some in the gift machine) and they are offered for males, as well.
Due to the timing of Halloween at the very end of the month, I did not include holiday items unless I felt they could stand on their own at any time of the year, as decorative, clothing or useful items. This is not to say that there weren’t some great value items and packs for the season, and I hope you picked some up, such as Juggernaut’s great $9.99 Halloween Bundle of eight active items, three furniture items and two LMO’s.

The mustaches surprised me slightly as facial hair can be hit or miss. It is doubly surprising when the female versions hit the list this past month as opposed to the male versions, though that may be due to the novelty angle. Either case: The emote functionality adds flavor to them and it’s nice to see items with that functionality, though would’ve been nice to have them all share the litany of emotes.
Shrink potions and swarms aren’t as surprising to me -- LMOs are the new ‘in’ thing now and both are quite amusing. The horror beatbox couldn’t have been better timed, so chances are it is deliberate. lol
Nice to see Toylogic on the list, let alone twice. Footwear seems to be popular, given sneakers and galoshes appear on this list.
