The LOOTcast, Episode #1: Diet Coke Explosion!

by NorseGamer, HSM Publisher

One of the coolest things about LOOT is the Odd Couple interplay between David and Danilo. You just have to see it for yourself.

No, seriously. You’ve got David, who is basically Rod Steiger’s character from Mars Attacks!, and then you have Danilo, who’s all meticulous and precise — and no one understands what he’s saying.

Everyone agrees the English language makes nodamnsense. This makes it especially hard for people to learn as a second language. And, to be fair, Danilo has a really good command of English for someone who learned it as an adult. But then there are certain “Daniloisms” — analogies which somehow don’t quite translate properly from Brazilian Portuguese — which are just amazing.

Example: “The cat is over the tree.”

In the southern hemisphere, this probably means something completely different. Meanwhile, at LOOT, it’s become a catch-all phrase for…um, everything, really. The cat is everywhere.

lootcast4And, meanwhile, David is blasting doom metal — or thrash metal, industrial metal or martial metal — during production meetings. Which of course has me headbanging, because, dammit, METAL. And then Prateek, our director of application software development, looks at all of us like we’ve lost our minds. Which we have.

The work we do involves long hours at a high-octane pace. LOOT is not a John Denver ballad; LOOT is John Denver replaced by Oderus Urungus. But Christ, do we have fun. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve seen window panes rattle from the laughter coming out of the office.

And it doesn’t stop there. The entire LOOT team is basically Sony given the MAD Magazine treatment. And you should see this. One of the things that’s personally bugged me over the years, whenever I’ve tried to watch a video dev diary, is that whomever I’m watching is almost always focused on trying to be serious and show something when I don’t have a sense of the personalities involved and only a high-level grasp of what the hell I’m looking at. As a consumer, I just want what’s been shown to be fun, exciting and entertaining.

So that’s what we’ve set out to do with these first few LOOTcast episodes: introduce you to the many insane and zany personalities on this team. Because it’s important to see us unstaged, unscripted, completely off-the-cuff, having fun doing what we do. If you can first become familiar with everyone on the team as people and personalities, you’ll feel a much greater connection to us later on when we shift into commentary about various topics at large or show off projects we’re working on, because you’ll already know us as people, not just talking heads. We’re the bizarre skunkworks in the basement that has the secret handshake, decoder ring and sharks with laser beams.

We’ve decided to kick off the LOOTcast series proper with a wider introduction to more of the team, as well as a very serious discussion of Diet Coke. Understand: Diet Coke is sacrosanct in the office. Never, ever waste a drop of Diet Coke. So when there was a Diet Coke explosion in the office…

Well, see for yourself!

I see a super soaker diet coke fight in the near future. Danilo is hilarious!

Oh, you might want to wear safety goggles, and have a box of wet naps handy.

    That was entertaining!
