Bumpers for Your Mind

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer and filmmaker

I have a lot of things on my mind, and at some point I want to put it all on a piece of paper or into one machinima in just under thirty minutes. Too many colors, ideas, fight scenes, food dishes, combo videos, and ways to launch a kitten into outer space — all of this in my head.

A little insane, I know.

But what I like the most about creating videos is the idea of putting one’s expression into a small window frame to feature what’s on my mind at the time. Such the case is through something that I call “TT Bumpers”.

The inspiration comes from short bumps based on in-between commercials on  the Adult Swim block for Cartoon Network. They would feature an absolute photo of serene landscape and city drops and fit some quality music with the said photos. Often times it would give the viewer a tease on either whats to come, purvey what area the picture was taken (for example the Shinjuku area in Tokyo is the solid foundation to many of their bumps when they used to air anime shows like Samurai Champloo and has been one of the most popular features of their block).

What I like to do with my bumps is actually create something unique with mine by featuring the use of fashions and whatever else I can utilize for any theme I surmise from Playstation Home. Normally, bumpers run as long as thirty seconds, and hopefully I could use these in some segments in a few future videos.

I felt compelled to share these with the HSM readers out there, and for those that enjoy the classic bumps from the network, I hope I’ve recaptured some of the essence of them. If you enjoy them, be sure to subscribe to my channel and check out my playlist. Until then, I hope you enjoy.
