Announcing Lockwood’s New Community Manager: Melissa Rumery!
by NorseGamer, HSM Publisher
So the announcement formally came out from Lockwood today: their new community manager is HomeStation’s Editor-in-Chief, Melissa Rumery!
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: yes, Melissa and I are in a relationship. So, on a personal level, I’m absolutely thrilled for her. But there is a very clear separation of personal and business here; the reality is that she’s an outstanding candidate for the position, as evidenced by her work here at HSM over the years. Through it all, Melissa’s been there to help drive things forward, behind the scenes and in endeavors both consumer-facing and developer-facing.
Melissa’s earned her success. No one else will ever really know just how much she’s done over the years to keep HomeStation going — which is as it should be, because neither she nor I (nor anyone else on this team) ever got into this for any sort of personal glory — but it does validate the old aphorism that the harder you work, the luckier you get.
And seriously, what better place for her to end up at than Lockwood?
This publication has always been very open about its pro-Lockwood stance. Lockwood, after all, was the very first Home developer to sign on in support of HomeStation, back at a time when a lot of doors were closed to us (and, frankly, some people were dead-set against us succeeding). We haven’t universally praised everything Lockwood’s done, but the reality is that they do so much stuff right that it’s hard to find things to criticize. And to the victor go the spoils: Lockwood’s presence in Home is staggering. Not only do they have a chunk (often a sizeable one at that) of almost every market sector in Home, but they’ve actually invented one or two along the way.
Lockwood’s pulled off the remarkable feat of having something new in Home almost every single week. For years.
Christ, do you know how hard that is?
Take it from someone who’s intimately familiar with the steps required to get content published in Home: that’s a staggering amount of logistical work. And what’s truly jaw-dropping is that nearly all of that content is somehow really appealing — in some cases filling a need you hadn’t even articulated you wanted.
Lockwood is a huge part of Home, with a passionate and dedicated community following that they’ve earned. It was fantastic to see Melissa given the opportunity to help build Lockwood’s Avakin community earlier this year — because Avakin really does have some nifty stuff in it — and I really can’t think of a better person for the job of heading up Lockwood community management across the entire brand than her. Not only does she have a personal passion for Lockwood and its products, but she’s completely up to the workload.
Please join me in congratulating Melissa in her new role as Lockwood’s Community Manager!
