The Top Ten SCEA Home Value Items for August
by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer
Like beauty, value is in the eye of the beholder.
In other words, what one person sees as value, another person may not. Value, as I understand it, is a cost-to-worth relationship and I can only tell you what I perceive as having value in Home purchases. Following are the items that I consider are the best value for the past month and I’ll tell you why I think so, for each item or package. This isn’t a list of my favorite things for the month and they’re not always the least expensive item(s), either. It should be no surprise that bundles make up the majority of the best values on Home, as combined items sell for less in a pack than they do purchased separately. You may not want every item in a bundle, but when you like most of the items included, the bundle can be a bargain.
Note: Although these items are numbered, it’s not meant to be a top value to least value list, but rather my value choices for the month overall. I didn’t include free items and I also didn’t try to choose one of each type of item, such as estate, locomotion, furniture pack, clothing item, etc. If I had this would have been a somewhat different list.
1. Lockwood’s Festival Wellies Pack for $1.99. Do you remember when it used to rain in Central Plaza and we had the Irem space before the Cave where it always rained? I used to love to wear my rain hat, coat and boots from Lockwood to these spaces. Sometimes I still put them on and add the animated raincloud from Sony over my head. Nowadays we can even add rain to our own spaces and Lockwood’s Wellies are the perfect footwear items to wear while it’s raining. The colors and designs are fun, too. The pack includes four pairs, sold for $.99 each separately and there are more pairs sold in the gift machine for 128 tokens, if you’d like to send a gift to a friend.
2. Hellfire’s Mood Cloud for $3.99. Speaking of rain, here’s your chance to pick up your own personal cloud and set your own weather, suited to the mood you’re in (or select) at the time. Whether it’s a rainbow when you’re happy or thunder and lightening when your angry, everyone around will know how you feel just by looking at you, even from across a large space. There’s even a speed boost when you’re running.
3. VEEMEE’s B Movies Madness Bundle for $15.49 and $16.49. I personally don’t dress my avatar as a male, so packs that offer male and female clothing (or gestures, dances, etc.) don’t appeal to me as much as one-gender packs do. They can be great bargains, however. These mega-packs include three complete outfit bundles for both genders. Purchased separately for each gender these three packs would cost $12.97 and $13.97, respectively, for males and the same for females. So, if you switch genders these double packs are definitely right for you.
4. Digital Leisure’s Personal Casino Bundle for $49.99. No, this bundle is not for everyone; it’s very obviously aimed at the whales of Home. It’s for those who play poker and other casino games for hours on end and would like the opportunity to invite a few friends over to a private space for an evening of casino style gaming, without the worry of crowds or interference. Digital Leisure is basically selling the games themselves and due to the high furniture slot count, they are offering a personal space with all of them built in.
5. Lockwood’s Ultimate Gardening Pack for $4.99. We’ve had a lot of items offered to us for our interior spaces over the years and now we’re seeing more items for the exteriors, especially patio areas that we may want to covert to a warmer and softer look. This pack is one of the best of these offerings, with eleven items, from grass and soil tiles, bushes, flowers and a tree, to a flowering arched trellis. There’s even a watering can ornament, just for fun. Sold separately these items would total $8.38 so this well-made pack of items is a really nice savings. You also may want to send some gardening clothes to your friends from the gift machine.
6. nDreams’ Harajuku Clothing Bundles for $6.99. These 24-item clothing bundles may have some of the wackiest clothes (other than those made specifically for that purpose) that you will ever see on Home. Colorful, bright, mismatched, and just plain fun, these are clothes that may not be for everyone, but they do have flair and there are many people with a quirky sense of humor that they will appeal to.
7. Lockwood’s The Prairie Ultimate Pack for $12.99. A $6.99 estate and a $6.99 similar clubhouse with a different style of building, that also come with a game and unique rewards and bundled together for this price, would be a little savings and not too of a bad deal. But when you pick up this ultimate pack, you will also receive nine horses, most of them with saddles. These LMO’s are sold separately for $2.49 to $3.99 each and are basically included for free. Now, that’s value!
8. Juggernaut’s Bramblenook Farm Update Bundle for $3.99. Wow – just wow. With this update package you can change the exterior and the interior of your farmhouse in two different ways. (But be aware that you will still need to earn wood and gold coins from your personal space to make these changes.) You may also want to look into the new furniture and item bundles that go with the farm and/or the updates, especially the active furniture bundle that keeps up with Juggernaut’s tradition of innovative items with low furniture count slots. I’d like to mention in addition to these great bundles offered for sale, Juggernaut has updated this personal space with another level of item making and with swimming in the creek – a nice little feature and a first for Home.
9. nDreams’ Magnificent Facial Hair Bundle for $2.49. Speaking of wacky, these mustaches are right up there with some of the wackiest items you’ll find in Home. Just looking at them on your avatar will make you smile, I’ll bet. I read that these items will be offered for females also and I’m looking forward to my chance to wear these wonderful ‘staches.
10. Game Mechanic’s Tailgate Bundle for $8.99. Although these are not new items, this bundle is new and it’s a great bargain for some great articles. If you are a racing fan or sports car enthusiast, you’ll want to pick up the pack of 18 items for this low, low price. These items really make any backyard or racing space something special. You’ll enjoy how naturally close you sit with items like the bar with stools and still have a low furniture count for each piece.
With so much great value content coming out this summer, it’s been really hard to pick just ten items or bundles for this list each month. Every month I feel that I might have failed to mention some great articles that have been brought out by various developers, that should be mentioned. I can only hope that you all look through the stores for new and old items that have great value for each of you. Supporting Home on the PS3 lets Sony know we want it on the PS4 also.
