The Heart of the Matter

I almost swallowed my tongue when I read the following press release…
Tokyo, August 30, 2013–Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that PlayStation®Home in Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia (SCEJA) will cease publishing new content after September 2013 for Japan and March 2014 for Asian countries and regions.
PlayStation®Home in Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will continue to fully support their vibrant PlayStation®Home communities with full weekly publishes, new public spaces, virtual items, and platform features.
SCEI would like to thank our respective communities for many years of dedicated participation inside of PlayStation®Home and look forward to their continued involvement.
I could easily write a two-million-word article — or manifesto, as it were — on my feelings about the future of Home. But for the purposes of this article I will forego that and spare you the eyestrain.
Instead, I’m going to share with you my first and admittedly odd reaction to this news.
I once wrote an article wherein I morphed my favorite Dr. Seuss piece to make it apply to Home. And along those lines, I now will attempt to morph the song that popped into my head upon reading the above press release. This is by far one of my favorite songs, not only for its haunting melody but for what I consider some of the most epic lyrics ever written.
” The heart of the matter” by Don Henley
(adapted for Home)
I got the news today that I didn’t wanna hear
But I knew that it would come
An old, true friend of mine was emailing on their phone
And said they found something
And I thought of all the bad luck
And the struggles we went through
And how I love Home because I found you
What are these post on the the forums for
Make us throw off our contentment
And hope for something more?
I’ll learn to live without Home now
But I miss it most sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I’m learning again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down
To the heart of the matter but my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about the friendships, the friendships
Even if, even if I can’t log on anymore
Ah, these times are so uncertain
There’s a yearning undefined
And people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can Home survive in such a graceless age?
Ah, the fun and socializing that lead to happiness
They’re the very things that are lost I guess
Ohh, pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put into this
You know it doesn’t keep me warm
I’ll learn to live without Home now
But I’ll miss it, baby
And the more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I’d figured out, I have to learn again
I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter
But everything changes and my friends just might scatter
But I think it’s about the friendships, the friendships
Even if, even if we don’t log on anymore
There are people in your life who’ve come and gone
Your friends list changed, your know your interest do too
You better put it all behind you baby, ’cause’ life goes on
If you keep carryin’ that saddness it’ll eat you up inside, baby
I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about the friendships, the friendships
Even if, even if no one logs on
I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the heart of the matter
Because the flesh will get weak and the ashes will scatter
So I’m thinkin’ about the friendships, the friendships
Even if, even if we can’t log on anymore

I have never heard the song before, but I completely agree with the lyrics, yours too.
Great response Liv!
Nice take on the song and the subject Oli. Love the way you think.
