Bigyama Returns

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

September 6th saw an announcement that made me stop in my tracks and take a second look, to make sure that I had really seen what I thought I saw. And I did see it — I really, really saw it. What I saw was this:

“After a bit of a pause, we’re going to be releasing some brand new Home content soon! – Bigyama”

I have to say the “bit of a pause” and the use of the word “soon” gave me a chuckle. The first because Bigyama hasn’t produced anything for Home in over a year, and the second for their use of the new Home developers’ slogan, “Soon”. I think these guys have been paying attention to what’s happening in Home, and I’m very excited to see them coming back. I, for one, thought they were gone from Home forever and I’m thrilled that they are returning.

Forthstar clothing

I was a huge fan of Bigyama when they first came out with items for Home. You may recall that these are the people who produced the innovative Forthstar line of clothing. These clothes were unique, with well-designed western and futuristic styles for females and males. I even wrote an article, called “An Overlooked Bargain”, about their furniture items. So when I saw this notice, I rushed to their website to find out what they have been doing since they stopped producing for Home, and what we could expect to see from them on Home in the near future.

Based on their website, I’d saw these gentlemen are minimalists in the extreme, but they do have a sense of humor. For instance, to quote from their “about” page: “Bigyama was founded by two gentlemen who, after some time in the games industry, decided it was time to strike out on their own. If they weren’t so screen meltingly hideously ugly we would post a picture of them.”  And also this one from their “contact” page: “The facebook page is rarely updated but when it is – it’s the kind of update that will have you questioning your entire life up until that point. Do not click lightly!”

What they’ve been doing is working with Fallen Tree Games to help bring their puzzle game, “Quell Memento” to the Vita. A video of this game can be seen on their website, and it looks fascinating. The game has over 150 puzzles, a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, appeal to all ages, an interesting voice over, and an unusual premise. If you’re a puzzle game lover or would like to start being one, this is a game you will definitely want to look into buying and playing. It’s available for the Vita, iOS and Android.

However, Bigyama has not, as of the time of this writing, added any new information about forthcoming Home products to their website. If you wish to review their older clothing and furniture items, there are pictures and short, but detailed videos of both lines on their website still.

So, without direct information from them, I feel free to speculate on what they may have in store for us in the near future. Although I think these guys could design and make a fantastic personal space for Home, I don’t believe they’ve had enough time to do so. Also, as I believe they have been very aware of what’s going on in Home, we could hope to see a locomotion or other active item from them, but this may also require a little more programming than they’ve had time for. So, what I expect to see are additional stylish and/or interesting clothing items with their unique twist or new furniture items. They may branch out into other rooms in the house. I wonder what these guys would do with a bathroom, kitchen or bedroom. But whatever it is they’re coming out with, I can hardly wait!

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.

The Bigyama stuff is well produced, quality looking product. Their stuff has detail and through that you can easily see they already understand how to make good Home stuff. I felt rather sad when I found out they were pulling out of Home so soon after such a great debut; since the obviousness of quality was clearly there. I honestly thought there was someone to truly rival LKWD’s high-end abilities coming to Home, and they hit hardest with their prices too, I mean, that furniture pack from them is STILL one of the single best offers in Home so far.

I’m glad to hear of their return, and hope they come back out swingin’ this time.

I have kept revisiting their icon, hoping for more content. I got the furniture pack as soon as it came out and want more!
