The Drive In

by Godzprototype, HSM team writer

It’s wishlist Saturday and here I am sharing an idea I’ve had in mind.

Although I have enjoyed using my Midnight Glade as a theater, I have wondered what LOOT could do with the creation of a real classic of entertainment – the drive-in. LOOT continues to provide really amazing social experiences, with their items that play movies, and music. Now that movie nights are hosted regularly by LOOT, this wish could bring that experience together in a new way.

Drive-ins are really cool! I can remember hearing Wolfman Jack on the radio in California on the way to the theater. Those were memories of flashes of light, and people at the concession. There was the smell of popcorn, the cars, and then seeing that really big screen with some B-movie playing. The last movie I saw at a drive in was Total Recall. After the movie was finished with it’s run, they closed that theater in Athens, Ga. Now everything is all login and watch. You could say that we went from drive in to login.

Intermission

Intermission

Why not have both?

Currently there are 447 open drive-ins that are known to be operating around the world. There are 355 in United States and 53 in Canada. At their peak in 1958, there were between 4000 and 5000 drive-ins operating in the United States.

In 1933, the first drive-in theater opened, Variety magazine used the term Ozoner to describe an outdoor movie theatre in which the patrons view a film from their automobile. It could also be used to describe people that attend drive-in movie theatres.

Nowadays, people don’t have to go anywhere to watch a movie. You can just pull one right out of your pocket. But it isn’t the same. It would be totally awesome if LOOT made a drive-in with a nice large screen. People I have talked to seem to be extremely interested in having cars they can sit in with someone.

It seems the more horns and whistles you put into a project could cost you some practical function in the long run, so keep it simple. Making a space with cars in place, a concession stand, and a screen at least as large as the one on the Space Station should do the trick. It wouldn’t hurt to have a “SOON” billboard somewhere in there.

That’s another thing – there really aren’t enough options on two person vehicle seats in Home, and this would be a really good reason to make them. Ecto1 is an excellent virtual vehicle that does seat two. Not even to mention it is a station wagon. Pretty much a standard vehicle for a drive-in.

Possibilities

Possibilities

In the meantime, I’ll be making a drive in with items already in Home – Lockwood’s Midnight Glade and the Blue Toad car that seats three. There is a bumper car available in the Lockwood gift machine that works pretty well as an extra seat (car). The loudspeaker with animation works well standing on a column next to the car.  The one most important thing is LOOT’s 240″ screen. I put mine up on two very tall speakers. Add grill, popcorn, sodas, and friends. It is a fun process. I just wish it wasn’t so labor-intensive to get everything just so.

Just imagine – LOOT, at a Drive-in!!

Just sayin’ – SOON!

I hope.

I love the idea too. I’ve never experienced a drive-in before but then, I do live in Scotland; so the screen would probably rust before intermission lol!

But to get one in Home would be cool, and LOOT’S EOD is the perfect set-up for it too. This must happen!

Although, with GTAV on the horizon, I think I’ll likely be there; hanging with friends in my hard-earned properties (I’m planning on scoring by investing in its online stock market) cursing the streets with them all piled into my classic customised car, driving through the city, up and out of the city limits and maybe going hunting/deep-sea diving/gambling/skydiving with them! Who knows, maybe we’ll find a drive in there; we could watch a movie parody then steal the waitress and shoot the popcorn!!! Yeah, I said that right…

    Sorry, GTA dreamin’ again!

A personal space or better yet a club with this concept would be a huge success. Many people have never experienced what it was like to go to a drive-in theater, but I have gone to one many many times growing up. Just thinking about it brings a lot of sweet memories of time with my siblings and parents, as well as a few with boyfriends. My very first date ever was spent at a drive-in with my new boyfriend, and his parents, lol. I do hope this comes to be.
Please Loot, this would be a very fun way to showcase your EOD yet again, and in my book the best one yet.

So true Burbie, it’d be an amazing space; I’d say a permanent public one would be amazing too. The movies would have to be be very limited though to entice potential sales -- hey, just give them the “full rosta” from what the UK get lol!

A club space would be a necessity, and course, personal would be mandatory.

I can see why it have to be a club house or personal space as some idiot would troll a public version, It would a bag rustling, mobile phone going off or drink slurping experience of a real cinema lol
