Take A Death Plunge With SkyDIEving
by ted2112, HSM team writer
Are you ready to have your mind quite literally blown?
nDreams is on a roll right now. First, all the over the top Home stuff, like the swanky hot tub and those Apartment Androids. Then they jump into the Apple app store with Pub Play and Dash’s Family Photo Face Off. Now nDreams is taking us on a jumping simulator with SkyDIEving.
The name skyDIEving is a take off on the word skydiving, but not really, because frankly you’re not going to make it. This gaming simulation was designed for the Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset, and from what I have read it’s truly amazing. Don’t have the Oculus Rift? Yeah, they know: that’s why you can try the game out right now at www.skydieving.com and partake in this free-falling experience right now on your home computer.
The game play is quite simple and even on your computer it’s a blast. You start off on a platform, and the only way is down. Move to the edge of the platform, and it’s death plunge time! If the fall isn’t exciting enough, on the way down you will have to dodge obstacles by controlling speed and maneuverability. You need to find a way around them — or though them — and when you do, don’t get too excited, because another one is coming right at you.
It’s rare we get a chance to try out emerging technology and get a glimpse of what game designers are working on next. nDreams described the whole thing as an “experimental-game-demo falling simulator-game thing.” So come on, Home users, and take advantage of playing this game before anyone else! You can also play skyDIEving with your friends, because there is a muliti-player option. So, invite your mom or your favorite HSM writer to play.
nDreams is also holding a video competition. All you have to do is take a video of your skyDIEving experience in some way and submit it to nDreams for a chance to win. The prizes are a real skydive for winners in the UK, and an Amazon gift card valued at the US equivalent of £150 (about $200, more or less).
So: calling all Home machinima enthusiasts — break out the camera and give it a whirl…literally!
