Home Mashup
by ted2112, HSM team writer
A mashup is when you take two different things and combine them to create a new experience. In Home, such possibilities are endless.
It started for me when I bought a bike at Acorn Park. I loved riding the bike so much, I asked myself: where else can I ride this? This simple question led me on a journey of combing Home items that didn’t necessary go together, and having a ton of fun in the process.
The Acorn Park Bikes: These bikes are a blast to ride, and when you take them out of the park the flavor changes. My favorite place to ride the mountain Bike is the Motor-Storm Carrier, this spaces has ramps, tunnels and great spots to jump your bike off. The BMX bike is perfect in the Playground space. The urban environment has several stages and ramps to jump for distance. For those lucky EU players the Original Home Square apartment is a bike riding paradise. Simply taking the bikes out of their original spaces mashes up a whole new world.
The Skateboard Animation from nDreams: This is a perfect combination with the Mini-Bots personal space. In fact all the free ramps that come with the space can be moved to any personal space for further mashup. I built an entire skate park in my Dragon’s Lair space.
LOOT Space Station room dividers and cubes: These stackable items are incredible versatile and can entirely change any room’s interiors. Also, try using them with any carpet to create multi level platforms. These furniture items, were never designed for with building in mind, but it takes no skill whatsoever to create a great structure and it’s almost a game unto itself.
Bad Stapler Trophy: You get this item for free when you finish Xi: Continuum, and its ability to hold things are amazing. The Stapler trophy will hold just about anything. My favorite is as an instant bartender serving up some cool summer drinks. Again, not it’s purpose when created, but lets not let that stop us.
When you combine different furniture or locomotions with a little imagination, the sky is the limit. Home might just be the perfect sandbox for mashup. These are just a few examples of some of my favorites; the idea is to think outside the box, have fun, create and see where your imagination carries you.

Heh heh, I like this.
When they gave us those free LBP Karting LMO’s over in EU, and turned Home Square into a whole race track we had fun. But it got me thinking too; where else can I ride this?
As it happens EU has a massive (unused) “event hanger” that was set up for ModNationRacers years ago, which has a large lake then desert area and then a crowded (with cardboard cut-outs that watch you) multi-path area too. It’s huge! But it’s also great for setting up LMO races too.
I’d imagine the Journey space would have been cool but I’m not sure even if the LMO’s would work there.
The great thing about doing this is not only does it breath New life into these tired old areas, but they’re mostly empty too; so it’s easy to find a fun space to push your LMO’s without treading on too many toes!
I totally agree with you about the BMX bikes in Playground space. It seems this has become a unofficial BMX hot spot. I have seen lots of Skateboarders in Acorn park lately as well.
The stapler trophy blew my mind. I wonder if they designed him to do that or it was an accident.
I have had a lot of fun making personal spaces into thing that they weren’t intended for. I have stapler in my Xi apartment park area but he has crows sitting on him. lol. I don’t own a bike yet but skateboarding is fun in a lot of areas. I will have to try some of the ones you suggested.
Fun read as always Ted.
Sounds really cool! I wish I had more time to try all this stuff out. It’s fun to be creative and try things out and when it works out even better! I definitely want to find time to play around with this all! Great and fun read!!!!
