Home Conference One
by Jersquall, HSM Editor Emeritus
Home. Half a decade of Home. So many people come and gone. Moments, movements, words and feats. Voices which fell silent. Others which have arisen.
It’s astonishing to think about how much time we’ve spent here. Entire lives altered. Just look at this publication: three of its editors are now employed by three different Home development houses, and one of its filmmakers creates tutorial videos for a developer. These are huge accomplishments which show that the distance between consumer and developer is not nearly so wide as we may think.
Home may be in a precarious place right now. You get the overwhelming sense that its evolution into a gaming platform didn’t quite pan out the way it was supposed to, and with absolute radio silence from SCEA or SCEE on the subject of Home’s future as the PS4 emerges into the limelight, it’s very easy to think the end might finally, actually be in sight.
Or is it?
Will Home make it onto the PS4? In fact, should it? Or should it be completely redesigned? Are all four regions sufficiently profitable to survive? Is Home’s economy overpriced, or do the recent departures and non-Home projects of some of Home’s biggest third-party developers indicate an overall lack of profitability? Can Home retain its audience numbers with games like Final Fantasy XIV and Grand Theft Auto Online coming up?
I decided to put together a conference with Home users from various backgrounds to discuss these topics, and much more. So join me, yaheard2008ep, gamer_316, king_of_games30, Cursed_Plague, cajun4life, LegoFire, homeboy79 and Legendary_Vicki as we dive into the world of Home 2013!
