A Little Gem

Acorn Meadows Park, brought to Home by VEEMEE, is a lovely public setting with wide expanses of green lawn. There’s scattered shade trees here and there, tall, neatly trimmed hedges, and scenic walks, some of which are along the small lake where swan boats glide by. There’s a miniature passenger train you can ride on all around the perimeter, and a lovely view of a petite waterfall from a small arched bridge in one small corner of the park. There is a large promenade over the lake with a view of the entire beautiful and expansive park. Also, there are many activities to be found there, including fun races offered to each individual in several modes, popping up every few minutes.

After some initial launch pains caused by a few bugs that are still being worked on, the vendors there were able to offer bicycles to enhance your touring pleasure, paddle boats to rent and share with another, if you wish. There were even coffee drinks, ice cream, and hot dogs to be consumed; and a choice of a dog companion to walk with you as well as to spend time with in the doggie section of the park. This area has already been updated for our faithful companions with an exercise course.

Not long after that, cotton candy and pretzel vendors appeared, along with a vendor having different styles of remote-controlled airplanes for rent and sale. And now picnic baskets are available in various sizes from two to ten people. You can spread your feast out on a blanket in many different areas of the park and invite one – or even more – people to join you, depending on the picnic size you purchase. All of these activities offer ways to receive some very nice and sometimes very funny rewards. Just spending time in this public space gives you rewards and points which eventually turn into the park’s purchasing medium of acorns.

AMP at Night

In the midst of all this activity we were offered a stunning nighttime version of the park this summer, with fireworks on the hour, including sparklers that spelled out “Happy 4th of July” under the promenade and a special Independence Day vendor with wonderful and funny red, white and blue items to purchase and show our national pride. (It was a space I and many others were sorry to see leave Home, but I’m personally holding out hope for a Halloween themed night time park.)

All of this was nearly perfect, except for the people.

Of course, the Home trolls are attracted to any space where people congregate and try to enjoy themselves with old friends or try to make new friends. In addition, through no fault of VEEMEE’s of course, at least one “family” has declared the park to be their new playground. They make it their mission to “take over” an instance of the park and try to force everyone else out. Recently a video of this activity was made available to view on the Sony Home forum. In some cases, the generally good advice to report and ignore is just not enough and you need to vacate the instance for your own sanity.

One place you could go to enjoy the same ambiance as the park, but have all the privacy you want is the new personal space, the Acorn Meadows Park Apartment. This space is a little, inexpensive gem at only  $4.49.

Gazebo2

There is a lovely white gazebo there with seating inside, surrounded by pretty and colorful flowers, located near the small grassy area where you arrive. You will also find a small arched bridge that leads out onto your private, tiny island. You can wade along the lakeshore, while enjoying the view on this beautiful sunny day or go under the shady trees. Unwind on your island, in the gazebo, on the grass, or under the trees and while you do so, you’ll be earning points toward acorns to purchase many items in the public space.

By the way, there is direct access to the public park from the private space, when you’re ready to return. The private space comes with six owner rewards that could easily sell for $.99 each but are free, of course. They include a white park bench, a sundial, a bird bath and three colorful potted flowering plants in white, pink and purple. Place the first three items on your island and/or on the grassy area near the lake shore and put the flowers inside the gazebo and then just take a deep breath and relax. Isn’t it peaceful?

Outdoor spaces are perfect for certain items which produce weather conditions such as rain or snow and would be fun to use here. I’m sure you can think of items that you own already that would add to this halcyon setting, also.

If you haven’t been to the open house, I suggest you go there before purchasing this private space. If the open house has closed, many people offer tours of all the spaces available on Home and you should always tour an estate before purchasing. Although not everyone may appreciate a space that is this small, many will love this cozy, relaxing and intimate spot for two or a few good friends.

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.

  1. It’s a small but exquisite space which I had fun with especially putting in the two gravestones I have and making a small Acorn Park Cemetery in one small corner of this park.
