What If Home’s Developers Worked Together?

by Burbie52, HSM team writer

My recent excursion to the new Acorn Meadows got me thinking about this question I had heard discussed recently about Home’s developers. The new public area is going to be a huge hit with everyone once they get the kinks all worked out, and it highlights our social side of Home quite well through questing and giving us just a great place to hang out with friends. However, one of the things that really hit me about the space is the fact that it seemed like many of the newer products – locomotion ones in particular – were going to fit quite well into this new area.

In the business world, the only time that you will see two companies in the same field cooperate with each other is if it is mutually beneficial to them. This has happened several time with rather large conglomerates in the real world, and the microcosm we call Home is no different. Competition is a healthy thing for companies, it makes them strive to do better than their counterparts, and that is always a good thing for consumers because it keeps the companies on their toes.

Horses: not just for ranch life anymore.

Home has several developers who are growing by leaps and bounds recently. Some of them are of the old guard and have been around for a long time, others are newer but yet are working hard at making their marks in the Home community, like Juggernaut and Atom Republic. They have each found a niche to fill and are bringing us some incredible new ideas and products to have fun with. But what if these individual companies began to cooperate and make virtual products designed for use with or within each others public spaces or possibly even private ones.

The new park VEEMEE has given us is a great example. Granzella gave us those picnic blankets we can carry around with us and the park seems to have been made for those to be used. Where else in Home do you have such a wide expanse of unused grass? The bicycles and small motor bikes we have are perfect for this space as well, as are the skateboards and roller blades we have gotten in recent times. This place literally begs for us to use these things.

Now, I know that developers hold their ideas and upcoming projects for Home as closely guarded secrets. This is only normal and smart, as who would want their idea stolen and utilized just before they themselves came out with it. But I think that some types of cooperation with each other would be very productive for all parties involved, we the consumers included.

Let’s say that Lockwood, who just gave us an incredible new beach space, told Juggernaut about their base idea of an exclusive Dream area for users. I highly doubt that Juggernaut would build one first as it doesn’t fit into their product lines really anyway. Plus the Dream universe is obviously a Lockwood product, one that I highly doubt any other developer would have the guts to try and copy or steal as it would be quite obvious to the public and probably counter productive. Juggernaut is the best company I know at utilizing memory allocation. What products could they make to enhance our experiences at the new beach? Perhaps a floating device that would work with the coding that the water uses there to swim? The possibilities are probably endless, and they are much more clever than I am at coming up with them.

What new users feel like

There are so many different ideas and styles floating around amongst these developers right now, and there will be much more to come in the future as the next core updates allow them more choices of what they can do in Home. Just look at how much Home has changed since we were allowed locomotions; it seems everyone has them now. We have no idea what the future upgrades will allow them to do, and they are working using the technology that will be available to us eventually, way in advance of what we have right now. Many of the current developers could join forces to enhance the experience of Home, and this would be to the benefit of all of us.

When you first come to this virtual world, you are like Alice in Wonderland, walking around with wide eyes looking at the strange and wonderful sights and sounds. However, what keeps people here are the experiences they can have, not the stuff they can buy and if those experiences can be added to by a mutual cooperation among developers it will be a great way to enrich it and add to the developers abilities as well. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and finding the right combination of collaborators can only be a good thing for Home.

Overall home is about money making, there’s no guarantee that the issues with acorn park will ever be fixed, example mercia has issues that will now never be fixed as it didn’t make enough money, and they are a lot of duplicate locomotions now that have been released in direct competition with other developers, mini motorcycles springs to mind. Ultimately it’s how the developer works granzella release so much stuff to buy there’s something for everyone but also loads id never buy, Lockwood who are branching out from home have been releasing content that’s not been released before but risking no one will buy it example golf gear. But would granzella a company who shut down spaces because they unhappy with quality of them, work with Lockwood who are quite happy to stop working on a space because it didn’t take money
