Home vs Real Life Weddings
by mnmsgin, HSM guest contributor
By now, most of you know that I found love on Home. Now as Doc and I take the next step in our lives, here is the question. Which is easier to plan — a Home Wedding or a Real Life Wedding? We were going to do both, but we found a wedding chapel in Las Vegas that broadcasts the ceremony live over the web.
I still say planning a Home wedding is way easier then the real one. In Home, all you need is to decorate one of your places or have it in a public place. Go through the stores and pick out your wardrobe for the day. The best part is, you can make your avatar fit into anything you want to. You can be tall or short, with endless possibilities of what you look like And this is just what your avatar looks like — the real you can be sitting in your pj’s.
Now comes the part of creating the invites. Do you want to keep it as your avatars, or make it the real people behind the avatars? Plus having friends from all over the world, it is going to be tough picking the time. Someone will always have it be really late or really early. Weddings on Home are A LOT cheaper too. Now that we took a look at what weddings on Home would be like, on to the real one.
Lets start by looking at the hurdles we are facing. The first step is where to get married. We picked Las Vegas because you can go there and get the licences the same day you get married. Which is cool, because in Wisconsin you have to be a resident for 30 days before you can get marriage licences. Okay, after you have the where done, you need a date. Luckily, I have the most amazing man I’m going to marry. He chose the date that he knew I would love. HALLOWEEN! Sweet — the day that I love, and now I will have another reason to love it.
Now that we have those two things figured out, it’s on to the hard part — telling all our family and friends when and where it will be. My family knows how much I love Halloween, so they are not shocked that we chose that day. Now we are at the what to wear part of the planning.
The best thing with choosing Las Vegas for our wedding, is that they have some really nice wedding packages. They have everything you could want included in the price. There is no need to rent a space to have the reception, worry about flowers, and most of the headache is gone — everything is planned at one spot, right down to the flowers, music, and decorations.
Most women, when they get engaged, sign up to get Bride magazines to look for their perfect dress. Not me — I look at the Halloween stores to see what I like. I would like to find a dress that is black and purple. I have come across some pretty amazing dresses, but i remember that costumes are not made like a wedding dress. So this gets me wondering if I should buy a costume or look for a Gothic prom dress. This is a work in progress.
Now on to the next step — picking our maid-of-honor and best man. I have my best friend standing up as my maid-of-honor. As far as best man, that’s up to Doc. I know it’s every little girl’s dream to be given away by her father. Sadly, my dad past away eight and a half years ago. So my very good friend is going to fill in for my father. I know he is in heaven watching and is happy that I have found such a wonderful man.
Next we need to see who is coming with us. We need a hotel that isn’t too expensive, but not too cheap looking. Good thing with Vegas, most of the hotels are nice and they don’t cost a lot. I am looking for a hotel that does group rates or can put our rooms close to each other. We are keeping in mind the price of the plane tickets, room cost, and food money. We don’t want to make this to expensive for our guests, but don’t want a cheap throw together wedding either.
The people that help you plan your day are really nice. They answered all of my questions, even though they get asked the same ones over and over. They told me what I was to expect. How to pay for it. They even sent me pictures of other weddings so I knew what everything looked like. What you need to bring with you when you go get your marriage licence. One good thing is most wedding packages provide you transportation to and from the court house.
I want this to be a mini vacation for family and friends. Something that will be hard to forget. I think it’s really cool that some of the Black Hats are going to be with us in Vegas. It shows that Home can be a place where you can find friends that will last a life time. Yes, I am glad that I have had the chance to meet the friends that I did. It’s even better being able to share our special day with them. All of this is possible because of a virtual reality world that we all grown to love. This place is called HOME!

Congrats Gin and Doc! I know from experience how hard it is to plan a wedding when people you want to come live far away from you. I did that when I lived in Hawaii and got married. Took quite awhile to get everyone on the same page.
Weddings in Home are not nearly as hard as those in real, but they can be tricky to pull off. I have done a few at my wedding chapel for people so I know.
Once again congrats and I wish you both the best!
Thank you Burbie
This article is great. I have a personal interest in this because I am in a serious relationship that stared in Home. I would love to take the same steps, and though there are many that look down on virtual relations, I don’t care…I love the woman that I found here in Home. I wish you all the luck and good life a couple can have.
Thanks
I have found another couple that is on Home and they are planning a Halloween wedding in Vegas this year too
Funny how things just work out!
You should have a convention.
More like Home takes over Vegas lol
