The Top Ten SCEA Home Value Items for March

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

These are the items that I consider are the best value for the month and I’ll tell you why I think so, for each item or package. This isn’t a list of my favorite things for the month; some of them I didn’t purchase and won’t for various reasons. Some things I bought aren’t on this list. They’re not always the least expensive item(s), either. For example, a $4.99 estate that’s just another pretty box – and does nothing and has nothing extra – is less of a value than a $9.99 estate that may include furniture or a game or other features, such as EOD or the ability to swim or fly, or a variety of these attributes.

By the way, I’m not including free items, as their worth is more than obvious. Although these items are numbered, it’s not meant to be a top value to least value list, but rather my value choices for the month overall. I also didn’t try to choose one of each type of item, such as estate, locomotion, furniture pack, clothing item, etc. If I had this would have been a somewhat different list.

1. nDreams’ Carla’s Coffee Shop – Classic Bundle for $2.99. The interior of this space is small, smaller even than the exterior. It’s basically a box estate with a built-in theme, though it can be altered slightly. But the estate’s price is hard to argue with and it has a lot of personality, also. One feature you may enjoy is that cars can be “parked” in the street there. The inclusion of a lot of items with this space makes this an even greater value purchase. There are nineteen items in the bundle, including seven items from the nParty Movie Star pack  This bundle is sold separately for $6.99 and includes items such as the red carpet, body guard standee and the paparazzi active item. The bundle also includes the “Landshark” items, including a pizza, sign, chair, coffee table, coffee grinder and coffee machine. These last five items are sold in a bundle for $1.99 on their own.

Ultimate Anime Value Pack
2. Lockwood’s Ultimate Anime Value Pack for $12.99 (Male) and Ultimate Anime Value Pack $14.99 (Female). If you love anime, these are the “must have” value packs for the look, the dances and the poses that are unique to this genre. The two packs are priced with a difference between the genders, but they both are value choices. The price difference is due to the female pack having more hairdo’s and accessories. The male pack has fifteen items and the female has eighteen items. That’s a lot of items, and a lot of value! Included in these packs are all of the items in the mask pack (five items), the glasses pack (five items), the accessories pack (three items in the male pack and four items in the female pack), the hairdo’s (two in the male pack and four in the female pack), six dances and five poses.

3. Atom Republic’s Eighties Moves Bundle for $4.99. If you are one of those who remembers the 80’s (or wants to emulate them) then you’ll love these fun and iconic moves. This bundle is another combination pack of three “dances” plus the famous backslide locomotion. The pack of dances, which has the undead choreography, the Egyptian walk & air guitar move, sells for $3.99 and the backslide sells for $2.99, separately.

Garden Set (Pine)4. O-Two’s Garden Set (Pine) $2.99 or Garden Set (Bamboo) for $2.99. It’s hard to set a value on unique items, but these are great prices for what is offered. The first bundle is a tree, a bush, and three different shaped plots of grass, while the second bundle is a stand of bamboo, a garden lantern, and three shapes of gravel patches. When we can decorate not only the interiors of our spaces, but also make changes to the exterior grounds, we have an opportunity to make our spaces even more specially our own. I can see these items being used in the exterior portions of spaces like the Hollywood Hills House or the Hillside Apartment to soften all that gray concrete. They would also make interesting indoor gardens in many estates.

5. VEEMEE’s St Patrick’s Day Value Pub Bundle for $4.99. The original space, the London Pub, which includes a dart game, was sold for $5.99 on its own. For a dollar less you can receive the re-skinned space and a lot of extras, such as a leprechaun companion who’s a cute little friend; a complete outfit for both genders that includes all the green you could need for any St. Patrick’s Day; and of course, your very own pot of gold. All of these items, separately and in their male and female bundles, sell for almost $10.00 without the space. You may not want the companion or the full outfit every day of the year, but the pub will be useful when ever you want to visit it. By the way, if you already own the London Pub, this new pack is sold for even less and so it’s an even greater value.

6. nDreams’ Weather Cube Bundle for $2.99. It’s great to feel we have more control on Home. We can already style our avatar’s looks, clothing, mood and we can add gestures, dances, and locomotions; we can move from space to space, public or private; we can decorate our spaces to suit our own tastes, whatever our style from goth to hip-hip; and we are getting more and more control over our estates. Not only can we decorate them, but we can often change the lighting, sometimes the wallpaper and flooring, and we are starting to have diurnal control in more spaces. The one great choice that started with another developer is weather control, and now you can have even more control and variety in the same space, with nDreams’s weather cubes. There are three of these items, one for snow, one for rain, and one for falling leaves for $1.99 each. In terms of unit price, it’s about half of what you’d pay for all three individually, and that’s a great deal.

Spring Bundle7. Juggernaut’s Springtime Adventure Pack for $14.99. As soon as I saw this pack, I knew it would be included in my March items. This pack includes sixteen items and is about half of the price of all the items sold separately added together. Included in this pack are three rabbit companions, including the Easter Bunny; two decorating items, including a very unusual and beautiful  “rug” item; and 11 unique active items, which are also decorating items. There are two wonderful units that your avatar can “ride” on, a swing and a carousel; three flower beds of various sizes and shapes that you can arrange yourself; an Easter Egg Hunt game and a Cascarones game that will be fun all year; three creature items, a bunny den, bird’s nest and bird’s perch; and a little item called the spring bouquet that allows you to set out twenty flower vases for only six furniture slots. Wow, just, wow.

8. Granzella’s Locomotion – Penny-farthing for $2.49. If you find great value in the unique then this item is for you. This bicycle is a very different type of vehicle than we are used to seeing in this modern era. The name of the penny-farthing is simply explained as a bicycle whose wheel sizes were considered to be in proportion to a penny and a farthing. The penny-farthing has a moving locomotion where your avatar is riding it and when you stop, your avatar dismounts and stands beside it, holding the handlebars.

Comedy bundle9. Atom Republic’s Comedy bundle for $5.49. Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. If you value humor and silly fun, I recommend that you pick up this bundle of six animations, gestures and dances. Included in this bundle are the silly walk and pretend horse-riding, which are sold for $2.99 each and the comedy moves bundle sold for $3.99 and which includes the Harlem Shake and Conga line dances, as well as the mime stuck behind a glass wall animation (Glass Wall, tee hee) and the Chicken Dance. Chicken dance! What more do I need to say?

10. LOOT’s Doctor Who – Wave One Bundle for $14.99. You may be that rare person who is not a Doctor Who fan, but if you are one of the millions of fans, you will certainly want to pick up the the complete bundle offered in Wave One of the Doctor Who releases. This bundle has the essential space for any Whovian, the TARDIS, offered as personal estate and as a club. It also includes the “BBC” camera and light, four costumes, including the eleventh Doctor’s outfit, a companion, the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver and River Song’s PDA. When you consider that an estate or clubhouse of this size, which includes EOD, could be $5.99 or more, and each outfit sells for $2.99, while the companion is $1.99 and there is still more, you’ll see that this bundle is one of the best values on Home.

Last month offered a wide variety of items of every sort from most of the Home developers. There were a lot of value items and packs offered within these releases, from estates through to dances and locomotions to unique item bundles. Months like this are wonderful because we want variety and we love choices, but it can be hard to make a list of just ten items. You may have your favorite developer, but you’ll want to view all the offerings each week before making your purchases. I recommend that you look over the items(s) of every sort before making your purchase(s), and especially be sure to tour any estate before buying.

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.
