Go Sporty on a Budget

by Kassadee_Marie, HSM team writer

Fore! A lot of people love sports and most — not all! — of them are guys. If they aren’t playing one themselves, they’re watching them on television or in person. Most people have a favorite sport, but a lot people enjoy playing and/or watching a variety of sports. You’ll find these people on the playing fields, courts and race tracks or in the stands or glued to their televisions every weekend and some week nights. So, guys (and gals), batter up! It’s time to go sporty on Home while staying on a budget.

When selecting an estate for this theme, I considered quite a few sports themed spaces, such as the RaceOn Garage, the Luxury Race Box, and the Motorstorm Spaces and also spaces with built-in games, such as Waterfall Terrace, Blaster’s Paradise and the Aurora Apartment. These are all great estates with interesting styles and/or a lot to offer, but I concluded that these spaces are too specific for an over-all sports theme.

Lakeside Log CabinInstead, I choose an old favorite of mine, the Lake Side Cabin. This $4.99 space has a rustic and sportsman-like “feel” to it, with walls that are brown stone and dark wood and floors of gray slate tiles and matching dark wood. I think the guys will enjoy the look of this space, especially. The estate is basically two rooms joined by a large patio that has a wonderful view of a sunset over the lake. Both of the rooms are large and can easily be divided into two or more areas, especially since the floor in each room has two levels. For instance, the first room can be set up as a kitchen and a dining room and the second room can be set up as a family room and bedroom.

If you want to set up a kitchen there (or anywhere) and don’t have any of these furniture items yet, I strongly recommend that you pick up the new set from Granzella, which would look especially suitable in this estate. This pack is only $1.99 and has five pieces, including a cupboards in three styles, a sink and a corner stove. Also, Sony’s Waterfall Terrace offers a lot of furniture bundles, such as the two leather living room sets, that would look great here. If you have either of these bundles or any of these items, I suggest you try them out in this space. A leather sofa in front of a fireplace would look especially pleasing.

Then there are items you can add, such as the winning dolphy trophy from Hudson Races, or the golf club reward from Dragon’s Green — if you have them or other items of this type — to make your space look sports themed. There is also the $.49 basketball and hockey trophies from Sony Originals. You might want to consider the UFC “heavy bag” from THQ still available in the store; the racing trophy case from the Luxury Racing Box (which is called the Luxury Owners Box in the furniture store); and the Giant Catchers Mitt chair from Sony Originals for $.99 each. Loot offers several sports related items like surf boards, snow boards and bicycles for $.99 each. And don’t forget to add a hot tub to relax in after a hard day of playing virtual sports.

Super Fan Sports Bundle

If you’re looking for or might want a great sports-themed furniture bundle to purchase, however,  I recommend the “Super Fan Sports” pack from Sony Originals. This $4.99 bundle has seven sports-themed furniture items, such as a football couch, basketball chair and soccer pitch rug. There’s even a scoreboard wall item to match in this pack!

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Stock car racing fans will want to pick one or more (or for the most savings, the pack of all four for $4.99) of Game Mechanic’s well designed stock cars, available for $1.99 each in four colors, including black and red. The Costumes Originals store has a race car driver outfit in five pieces for $.99 for either gender that might interest you. PixelJunk also has outfits for the racing fan of either gender. The girls’ one-piece outfit is offered in five colors for $.99 each, and the guys’ outfit is an hysterical looking “car-included” one piece outfit in five matching colors for $.99 each. JAM Games has several outfits also, such as racing suits for the ladies in many colors and two styles for $1.49 and $1.99, or racing suits for the guys in red or white for $1.49, plus accessories such as helmets and hair styles.

There are quite a few other choices for clothing, depending on your sport of choice. Several reward sports jerseys have been given out that you may have, such as the ones from Winter 2011, so check your wardrobe storage first. A hockey stick and a football hand item were given out then, also. Also, sports reward items are still available from the Sports Walk quiz, if these suit your sports choice (and color choice).

Double Time American Football Pack - Lockwood Lions2Double Time Cheerleader Uniform Pack - Lockwood Lions

Hut one. Hut two. Hike! Lockwood has a five-piece football star outfit for the guys, (which includes a hand-held football) and a four-piece cheerleader outfit for the ladies (which includes pom poms) if this is your choice of sport. These outfits are $1.99 and $1.49, respectively. Also, if you choose one of the Lockwood football or cheer leading outfits then the perfect companion for you is Milton, the adorable Lockwood Mascot lion for $1.99. Sony’s Originals also has a four piece cheer-leading outfit for $1.49 for the ladies in pink and white.

The Costumes Store also has several other sports outfits under the Originals tab. Choose between a bobsledder, which would go well with Juggernaut’s $1.99 sled locomotion; a polo player, which would look great with one of Lockwood’s horses; and even a jai alai player for $.99 for either gender. The guys can pick up a wrestler’s five piece outfit for $.99 or cyclist’s outfit for $.49 and $.25 each piece, which would look well with one of the $3.99 BMX bikes from nDreams. And the ladies can also pick up a bowler’s outfit or an ice skater’s outfit. The bowler’s outfit has four pieces for $1.49 and the ice skater has three pieces for $.99, and would look great with Juggernaut’s $1.99 ice skate blades locomotion.

Game, set, match! If tennis is your sport, 2K Sports offers several items in their Top Spin line, such as a male or female hand-held tennis racket; a polo shirt and shorts for the guys; and a polo shirt and skirt for the ladies, all for $.99 each. For tennis, you might want to consider the 8-Bit Tennis Buddy also from Top Spin, 2K Sports for $2.99 as your companion.

The Threads Feva Arena store has soccer fan tee-shirts and sports jackets for countries from all over the world for $.99 in male and female styles. Granzella just came out with soccer uniforms, at $.99 each piece. There are three pieces, jersey, shorts, sock and shoes in nine color choices, including yellow, purple, red, blue and green. This is another time that I wish Granzella would offer items in packs as well as individual items.

LMO - Sports SuperStars - Football Pro

After you’re dressed in the sports mode of your choice, you may want to pick out a sports move to match. If you picked hockey, basketball, football or soccer, nDreams offers three “Sports Superstars” moves for $2.49 each. The football and basketball moves include a ball and the hockey move is available in your choice of green or white hockey sticks. Granzella has also just come out with soccer gestures for $1.99 for males and females that include dribbling and juggling and the set includes a soccer figurine. A super run might be a good choice for any game of speed. The Super Dash is offered for $1.99 from nDreams.

So these are some of my suggestions for all you sports fans, but there are a lot more sports to enjoy. You may also have ideas that you want to try out. Just remember to have fun and always be a good sport.

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.
