Go Camping on a Budget

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

While parts of North America are having unseasonably warm weather, other parts are still covered in many feet of snow. If you’re lucky enough to be on the warm side of things, you may be thinking of summer activities already. And if you’re on the cold side, you’re probably dreaming of them! It may be early for actual camping, but on Home you can virtually camp out now or any time that wish. If you want to be a happy camper by not spending a fortune, I have some ideas for you.

There are two great spaces on Home for camping out, and both are from Lockwood. You just need to choose between a daytime and night-time setting. The daylight setting is the Sunlit Meadow, which is available in the gift machine for 512 tokens, so you’ll need to make arrangements for a swap with a close and trusted friend. The night-time setting is the Midnight Glade, which is free when you buy a stunning assortment of fireworks which costs $6.99. Of course, this space makes a great space for an Independence Day party, also. These fenced-in spaces are not large, but have great appeal for any “outdoors” person, as neither one has any other structures. The Sunlit Meadow has skunks, a small pond, a group of large large trees, rocks of various sizes and plenty of mushroom seating. The moon-lit midnight glade is a very simple grassy field with a small off-center hill under a large tree and a nearby campfire already in place.

Moon Forest Luxury Mini-Tent

You’ll want to pick up some decorating items for either space, such as the spring log/bench reward item from Lockwood’s egg-hunting game; the funny and free cow from LOOT at the Theater space; and, of course, the $1.49 Moon Forest Luxury Mini-tent. Some of Juggernaut’s Emerald Isle items would look good there, too. The Butterfly Perch and the Shamrock Table both have an outdoors look, and you may want to pick up one or both of them. These active items are $1.99 each, and take only four furniture slots. You might want to look over these items for inclusion too: the $1.49 black horse prop from Lockwood; and the animated horse ($.99), cow or goat ($1.99 each) from Sony Originals. These items last three items each take 22 furniture slots, but I don’t believe that one of them would be a problem in either of these small spaces.

I suggest these following items specifically for the Sunlit Meadow: the reward fishing chair from the Moon Forest space, to place near the small pond; Juggernaut’s Lamp of the Terra, which works well in small and/or outdoor spaces; the campfire with animated flames for $.99 from Lockwood which looks great in the center of the space, near the circle of stones under the trees; any barbecue grill you own, such as the $.49 small Playground grill from Originals; and a picnic blanket, such as the reward item from the Orb game at the public Aurora space for reaching level 60. If you haven’t reached this level yet, Lockwood offers (for $1.99) a four-item picnic pack that you might like.

Taxidermy Bear

In the Midnight Glade, you can set up your tent on the hill and then set out some seats or cushions around the campfire for an evening of telling ghost stories with friends. I suggest that you use the free director’s chair from Loot or the $.49 tasseled floor pillows from Lockwood’s Sodium line. You’ll want to try out the fireworks there, of course. If you have it, the huge bear statue from Digital Leisure’s Old West Saloon would look a little frightening, but fun, in one dark corner to startle those who explore too far from camp.

For attire, you’ll naturally want to go very casual. I recommend any shorts, tee-shirts and sandals you may already have for the Sunlit Meadow and any jeans, sweatshirts and boots for the Midnight Glade. If you really want something new, I recommend the Threads Originals store. The ladies can find free tee-shirts here, such as G-Force and Split Second; sweat shirts from $.49 to a mere $.05 in six colors; walking sandals for $.25 in black, tan, or white; jeans for $.49 such as embroidered, restored or acid washed; and hiker’s capris or rolled up jeans for $.49 each. The guys can also get free tee-shirts such as the blue or white Patapon Tatepon shirts or a free guayabera shirt; cargo shorts in gray or khaki for $.49; Pacific sandals for $.49; sweatshirts in blue for $.49 and yellow, pink, purple and orange for $.25; and jeans in gray or distressed blue for $.49 each.

Adult-Footed Pajamas (Female)

Of course you may want to put on pajamas at the Midnight Glade, as if you were ready for bed after some story-telling. You may have the light blue onesies reward from Winter 2011. Costumes Originals sold pajamas for ladies and Diesel sold a pillow hand-item that you may have, and these would be fun to wear, too. Konami has just come out with a new line of pajamas that include onesies for $.99 in four patterns for males and females that you might want to preview, also.

As a companion, I suggest that you look over Lockwood’s American Wildlife companions — a bear cub, a wolf and a skunk that actually sprays — for one that appeals to you. Any one of these would look great as a companion for you in either of these spaces. They are priced at $1.99, $2.49 and $1.49, respectively.

There may not be a specific locomotion or locomotive item to use for camping, but any of the new dances are a lot of fun, especially with your friends. And also the mini-bikes, called MiniMotors, for $2.49 from nDreams, would be enjoyable to ride in these spaces. It would be interesting to activate the Lamp of the Deluge from Juggernaut in the Sunlit Grove, if you have it, as campers do occasionally get caught in the rain.

As always, I suggest that you put on your favorite music and invite some friends to share the fun. Happy camping!

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.

I love the moon forest space. The mini tent for that space goes great anywhere. I have one set up at the tropical escape, in the woods section off the beach. Nice read Kass!
