Wearing of the Green: VEEMEE Style
by Burbie52, HSM team writer
On March 17th every year, the entire world becomes Irish for a day. It’s a kind of mass party atmosphere that takes over everywhere, from Australia to Russia, from Argentina to Switzerland and Japan. Although, if you looked into the history of Saint Patrick, you will see that what he stood for and what this day has become are two very different things.
Originally, the color associated with Saint Patrick was blue, but as the years went by, it became associated with green, mostly because St. Patrick was said to use the clover leaf as a tool to teach people about the Trinity in the Christian faith. Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official feast day in the early seventeenth century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Lutheran Church. For Christians, the day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. The day generally involves public parades and festivals, and wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians also attend church services and the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day.
This holiday is celebrated by all ages, though it isn’t an official holiday in the United States. It is, however, in several other countries around the world.
Home has gone crazy this year when it comes to holidays. This St. Patrick’s Day is no different, it seems. There is a huge amount of content coming out this week to cover it. It has come from everyone it seems, Juggernaut, Lockwood, Digital Leisure, and VEEMEE as well. With all of this content coming at you at once, you have to make a choice. What fits your tastes and your budget? How do you get the biggest bang out of your buck?
VEEMEE have answered with the release of their reiteration of the London Pub space. It has become the Wild Rover, an Irish pub, and for only $4.99, you get a lot of content to use for your avatar as well.
Though the pub is basically the same as the one given long ago to us – with the exception of the radio broadcasting – it is a very nice rendition of it. They have added green tiles in the bathrooms, green balloons, flag streamers and some nice shamrock stained glass to the bar area as well as a few glowing neon clovers. And for those like me who haven’t bought the original, it makes a great addition to your estates, one that may be used every year at this time for small gatherings with friends. There is a nice selection of Irish music playing in the background though, which is fine for the holiday, but it may interfere with playing other stuff. I wish there was a way to turn it off.
If you don’t own the space yet, you still get the Blinking Binx, a dog that lays around and blinks at you, and there is a shamrock head item to win at the bar using the pull game involving the taps there. The dart game is still working as well, and so is the score board with all of your friends’ names on it.
The clothing released is very appropriate for the day, though I am not too sure about those beards for ladies – unless you are going to join a circus side show. (Perfect for Midway, no? – Ed.) I liked the green vest; though I wish they had given us some different pants to use, as the ones they provided are for the leprechaun outfit and don’t quite work with the regular vest. The leprechaun companion is very cute. He does a little jig for his owner that others can’t see, but I like the way he does a little running hop as he follows you around.
All of the new content released is of great quality and though VEEMEE isn’t always known for their prices being low, these ones are very affordable. You can also purchase all of the items separately if you don’t need or want some of them, but the bundle literally gives you the space for free once you figure in the retail amounts of even a couple of the other items.
Add a few of those green beers you can obtain elsewhere and you have a perfect Irish Pub for your St. Paddys Day party this week. So go Irish and enjoy as Home encourages the “wearing of the green” this Sunday. After all, Home is the only place on earth you can celebrate with friends from all over the world and never leave your living room.
