Take this Job and Shove it

“Some chase after their dream job, while others CREATE their dream job.”

When I told our Editor in Chief  Terra_Cide that I wanted to resign from HSM, she instructed me to write my letter of resignation as the last article I would be writing for this magazine. She said my readers would want to know why I am stepping down from my commitments to them and to the magazine. She also indicated that as much time and energy the magazine has put into me, it is the least I could do.

Is she for real ?

First of all, the five or six people that read the articles I submit already know why I am stepping down as a staff writer at HSM. I don’t see how writing an article spelling out my reasons would provide those devoted readers with anything new. Secondly, This is an all volunteer collection of avatars who have come together to have their artistic talents published. As I have not contributed to the writing queue as much as the other staff members have, nor have I submitted any videos recently for upload to the LOOT EOD, I once again fail to see how publicly advertising my departure serves any purpose.

The nerve of her asking me to do that. The common joke about Terra is she loves to use her whip and I guess this is just another way of her reminding me of who she is and the guilty pleasure she derives from pain inflicted by her condescending words. Asking me to publicly provide a resignation letter in which I am just a menial staff writer is a preposterous request in my opinion. Maybe if I was a unpaid and overworked PlayStation Home Community Manager this might be a reasonable request.

Damn Her! Now that I have said all that, the guy sitting on the other shoulder has me thinking this might actually be a good idea. I can use this as a time to air out the HSM laundry. She wants me to explain why I am leaving the magazine, well be careful of what you ask for goes the adage. I mean I wouldn’t say nothing scandalous and personal as something like maybe if the Editor in Chief was sleeping with a  Home Developer or something. That isn’t a reason for me to quit. I would actually be jealous.

When I had officially joined HSMagazine I was playing as a part time actress for PSTalent, had just purchased my HD-PVR and formed a video production company called Avatard Productions. My friend Olivia was here at the magazine and once again I thought, if she can do something, so can I.

i quit 4I did not realize how brutal it was here to be a team member at this magazine. They need to bring back the UFC space so I can get the workout I need to stay alive here. Between the weekly three hour meetings, the 30 or so daily emails and the editor imposed quota of an article a week in the queue, I wondered quickly why I was here. Let’s start with the meetings. When I said three hours, I was being conservative. The meetings typically start out with editor going around the room and acknowledging people for their contributions that week. After all the ohs and ahs, brown nosing and blah blah blah, easily an hour goes by right there.

Next they usually jump into the numbers and inform us on how the web page is doing, how many hits and  writer page views, EOD visits and what videos are being watched. Between Gideon wanting to break them down into a exotic equation, Burbie trying to share with us how she will be doubling her numbers next week and the art director complaining about the quality of the pictures and videos, that is easily another 30 to 45 minutes gone by. Eventually they get into article ideas and it is like time stopped. Burbie goes down her weekly list of 50 or so items, General SealWyf is non stop talking about the Homelings and how we need more coverage of them in the magazine.

Last on the agenda is usually the machinima topics and projects. The writers who don’t do videos head out and then the pain begins.  NorseGamer chimes in with his guidelines that are non negotiable.  He reminds us weekly how he is the keymaster of The Keep and if we want to have the gate remained unlocked, we will each need to sacrifice our first companion. This of course always upsets Godzprototype and it takes I don’t care anymore how long to calm him down. The last meeting was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I was told that HomeCast will be put on the shelf and that a new approach to product release was being implemented. A new video producer, one who is not staff at HSM, was going to be doing the new product release videos for our EOD channel.

i quit 1To put this in perspective, I donate a huge amount of time to be a staff member here at HSMagazine. All of them do, more so the editors I’m sure. In my case, my time is expanded by the fact I have to drive a long way to come onto Home and do these projects. I don’t drive to Home for the drama that is included in every meeting. Either I am telling CheekyGuy to stop PMing me with his sexual innuendos, falling asleep to burbie’s voice or just getting a headache from grinding my teeth so much.

So I quit. I can’t take it anymore. I am sorry to those who followed HomeCast. If you miss it, blame the editors. Sorry to those of you who follow me here — blame the game, not the players. So with the senior staff moving on to other projects, Burbie writing for IGN, Kassadee Marie starting her own Home Budget magazine, NorseGamer taking over AlphaZone4 and the recent Sony press statement saying that Home will not be carried on the PlayStation 4, I see no reason to continue doing this meta game called HSMagazine.

Aloha and Ahui Ho, I look forward to meeting you in PlayStation Home.

I hope to meet you in Home sometime, I know you’ve never seen me at any of the meetings, that’s only because Terra is really strict about when I’m allowed out my cage (it’s bi-monthly BTW) and usually only late at night, when she’s angry…

Thanks for the announcement of my new online Home budget mag. I’ve been too busy with the holiday and getting ready for Spring break to do an announcement myself.
