Home is not Dead

Unless you have been living on another planet for the past several years, you know who Harry Potter is. This well-loved series of books was written for children who can read well on their own by J.K Rowling, and has become so popular it has spawned an entire series of successful movies and many other products as well, games included. I doubt that J.K. Rowling knew what she was creating when she first started penning this epic story while stuck on a delayed train all those years ago.
With all of the turmoil lately about the bringing out of the PS4 and Sony’s lack of information about Home’s future, we see a lot of people reacting in a variety of ways. Some have a “wait and see” attitude. We are willing to let the powers that be come to a decision and announce it when they are ready. Others are impatient, like a person tapping their foot in a long line at the fast food restaurant when on their lunch break. And yet others are more like screaming children in a grocery store, demanding instant gratification.
The recent announcement of Harry Potter public spaces being brought into Home next month is huge. Even though I am not really a follower of this series, the very first reaction I had after seeing this announcement was that Home isn’t going anywhere in the near future, if at all. It reinforced my thoughts that Home will be around for a long time, and has a good shot at moving to the PS4 as well. Why else would such a famous and monetarily successful venture as J.K Rowling’s books and Pottermore, her online community, have attached itself to Home? I doubt that she would hitch her wagon to a dead horse.
I am not a Potterite by any stretch of the imagination. I have only read the first book many years ago, and though I have seen all of the movies, I waited for them to be released to DVD instead of rushing to the theater like a true aficionado. For all that, I am glad to see this content coming to Home. It will be right in line with the fanciful themes that run through this place of the fantastical. It will breathe new life into Home by bringing people of all ages who love the series here, even if they have never been in Home before.
That being said, I hope that Sony safeguards their age requirements for Home even more, because a lot of the kids who love Harry Potter will be under the age requirements set by Sony. We don’t want underage children roaming the halls of Potterdom without supervision, though I’m sure it is bound to happen. This is where we as a community can step in and keep an eye out for them and take them under our wings, if need be.
This new Harry Potter content is coming from Sony itself, another indication that Home is not on its last legs. Sony has largely taken a back seat this past year when it comes to content releases, and the huge coup they have accomplished with this new addition is just more proof in my eyes that Home is alive and well, and will be for the foreseeable future. There are also hints that this is just the first content release of several, creating an entire Harry Potter universe within Home. If Home isn’t on the PS4, it will be here for quite a while on the PS3, and I think that this new association with J.K. Rowling’s company is a good sign that it probably will migrate to PS4 eventually, if not right away.
There are also quite a few hints from other developers that there are some truly amazing innovative products coming to Home very soon. They have all hitched their wagons to Home’s continued success, at great cost to themselves, even if they are also looking to diversify into other social media realms as well. It is always a good policy to not keep all of your eggs in one basket — it’s just smart business.
So, taking all of this into consideration, I think we can relax a bit and spend our time enjoying what Home has to offer and what is still to come in the very near future for us. If you are a Potter fan, the next month or so will be a very exciting time for you in Home. But even if you are not, join me in looking toward the bright future of Home with a sense of anticipation for the good things to come. I can assure you that they will be awesome, as the next developer upgrades become available to us.
This is only the beginning of what Home can offer us, so hang onto your brooms and enjoy the ride.
