If You Had a $20 PSN Card
by Kassadee_Marie, HSM team writer
The average Home user — “Homer” — is likely to buy or receive a $20.00 PSN (SEN) card more than any other denomination offered for sale. Some of us are frugal with our money when we receive a card as a gift, or purchase a card for ourselves. And some of us blow through this amount like it was tissue paper. I suggest you become one of the former types, if you aren’t now. You can really get a lot for your money and have a lot to enjoy in Home, if you shop carefully.
As an example, there are nine bundles for $9.99 that offer a themed estate, furniture and/or clothing, so you could buy two of those with a $20.00 card. These bundles are located in the Home Originals furniture store under Value Packs, and they are some of my favorite estates. However, these are some of the older spaces and you may want something newer, or you may not care for pre-set themes. If so, there are still a lot of “value” choices for you in the Home stores.
There are over 60 personal estates available for $4.99 or less at this time in the Home Estates store. That gives you a mammoth selection of designs to choose from, and there’s something available for almost anyone’s taste. Some of the spaces have games and some have rewards, or both a game and rewards. For just under $5.00, your avatar can reside in a cabin on a lake with or without a waterfall; at the beach or on a yacht; in a firehouse or a penthouse; in a tree or in a tent; in another country or even on another planet. You can own and play games, such as Mahjong, Tank Top Shooter, Waterfall Fishing, Warhawk Turret Shooter or Liar’s Dice. Or you could give gifts to visiting friends, such as a checked cube, a tree with falling leaves, a miniature airship, a dragon goblet, a “lightning” hand item, a painting, a “lantern” light, a fishing chair with equipment, a potted palm tree, or a pizza. If I had to recommend just one space, it would be LOOT’s Sunset Yacht, which I believe to be the best value on Home at this time, for its scenery, movement, diurnal controls, sea-life additions, and of course, EOD and RadioIO.
There are also well over 100 furniture bundles on Home at this time. A lot of them are very inexpensive, and offer great value, and some of them may directly match or coordinate with an estate that interests you. There are even three 100-item packs for $4.99 each, which would allow you to decorate a number of spaces differently at the same time. Decorating can be a lot of fun — you can go for a realistic, funny, cute, Gothic or out-of-this-world mode, or make up your own style. You can also add a lot of interest to your space by adding an active furniture item, such as an object that change the weather. It would be hard to choose the best value in a furniture bundle, because the items need to be appealing to the purchaser to have any value at all. Some of my favorites are Bigyama’s Ultimate Furniture Bundle for $4.99, which includes 18 items in five styles, Codeglue’s Oriental Decor Bundle, which costs $3.99 for nine pieces, and several of Loot’s bundles, including the $1.99 Christmas bundle, which includes twelve items, including eight beautifully wrapped packages.
In addition to furniture and ornaments, you may want to add a game or games to your space to increase its usefulness. There are ways to obtain free cabinet games for use on Home, such as downloading and playing demos such as Namco Museum Essentials. There are also a lot of games in the Home Games store — darts, pool, checkers, chess, solitaire and a number of cabinet games such as Scribble Shooter and A Game About Bouncing. At this time most of the cabinets take up one furniture slot, but most of the table games still take up a full 22 slots. It would be great to see the number of slots reduced for these items as well.
Music makes a great addition to your personal estates. The music store has over thirty items available for you to purchase from $1.99 to $14.99 for a nine-piece bundle. These items play themed music such as Christmas jazz, carols, pirate music or space music — or you can choose many different genres of music with any of the Loot RadioIO items. These “radios” also look great, and most of them are priced at $6.99 apiece. That’s a lot of music for just under $7.00.
There are so many ways to dress on Home it’s unreal, and impossible to name them all. You can be a king or queen, a wizard or a witch, or a god or goddess. Or you can be a hobo. You can be a cat or a dog or a hamster. Or you can be an alien. You can dress the way you do in real life or choose a completely different style and try that out. From Goth to HipHop and everything in between, the choice is yours.
You can also pick up a companion to match your outfit or to suit your taste. Home offers over 250 of them from $1.49 to $3.99. There are realistic, fantastical, Gothic, funny, adorable ones and more.
With locomotions costing from $1.49 to $3.99, you can choose to run or walk or skate at new speeds; fly, with or without wings; dance in a variety of new and old ways; makes sports or fight movements; ride a large number of animated creatures such as big cats, sky serpents, horses, and others; or ride inanimate objects such as bicycles, motorcycles, hover discs, flying carpets, and a miniature locomotive. There are more items and moves coming every Wednesday for you to choose from.
So, to sum it up, without too much time or money invested, you can own and decorate a private estate, give rewards to your friends when they visit, play games and listen to music there, dress up (or dress down), have a companion to follow you everywhere, or a locomotion to change your look and/or speed or even give new heights to your avatar. It’s all up to you, when you shop wisely.

Nice list. My best-for-value estate still has to be LOOTs Space Apartment, not only do you get four floors with potential there’s 12 (I think) TV screens and radio outlets, changeable flooring/lighting colours, loads of built-in picture frames linked directly to flikr and a Twitter feed that links to your account. Not to mention the 20 odd piece furniture bundle that comes with it, all for just under $10.
Oh, and let’s not forget that opening/closing roof that has possibly one of the best views in a personal space!
$20 PSN card? Well that’s an easy spend! First off I’d get 2 dance Moves. Then it’s off to sidekicks to get the monkey. Then May invest in a New personal space or the Motorcycle or Bike. Also what caught my eye is the Loot Radio. But lastly and more importantly I’d save some money in my account because usually as soon as I spend that last dollar something comes out so Awesome I wish I had saved some cash to get it!
With $20 PSN CARD i would buy some new Apartments. Some new LMO item’s and the Valentines Girlfriend Companion from Atomic… And much more! I so hope to win this…
Woot! Thanks for the plug to the harbor bay home decor contest Kass. You have been proving again and again with your budget articles that a person doesn’t need to have money to have class and style… and I like the way you roll girlfriend. Being a consignment affectionado myself I get a big kick out of finding something unusual and rare that no one else has for less than market price, or finding something that I that I can give a unique purpose to in my real life spaces. Thank you for this wonderful article Kass.
