Go Hollywood on a Budget

by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer

One of the marvels of Home is that you can dress to be like almost anyone or anything you want there, whether it’s mundane or exotic. It’s a lot of fun to pick an entirely new theme to try out, too.

So – since there’s no business like show business – I suggest you try becoming a star. If you’d like to become one (or live like one in Home) and save some money while doing it, I have some ideas for you.

Lights! Camera! Action! Let’s go Hollywood on a budget.

Hollywood Hills House

Sony has the perfect estate for this theme, which is the Hollywood Hills House for $4.99, of course. What could be more fitting for a rising star than a personal estate with a built-in theater, a large patio with a huge infinity pool and a view of all of Los Angeles from the Hollywood Hills? This estate has built-in EOD and RadioIO, in not one but two places. The screen in the living room is even retractable, if you’d like to enjoy the view from your living room area instead. I suggest you set up your dining room near the Tiki bar on the first floor also or just make the whole top floor a party room. The lower floor has the theater and another area, which you could use as a bedroom, with some screens for privacy.

While you can furnish your personal estate in any manner that you choose, of course, I have some suggestions for items that you may want to include for the Hollywood style. First, I suggest a lot of greenery, and any statues that you have for the patio area, in addition to loungers or umbrella tables. If you elect to set up a bedroom, you’ll need a great bed and some star accessories. For the bed, I suggest you choose between the gold bed which is a guest reward from the Sony Mansion; the heart-shaped bed, which you receive when you level up to Tier 4 in roulette at the casino; and the large modern double bed – Arctic, which is found in the Lockwood Dream Yacht: Arctic Voyage. If you have the active bed from the Creek Falls collection, you may want to check and see if this item will fit in that area, as it makes its own wall with the headboard.

Heart Shaped Hot Tub

You could continue the “heart-shaped” mode with the new hot tub from Juggernaut’s Instant Classy Date Pack or one or more of the heart-shaped items from the Lockwood gift machine, such as the heart cushion, or the chocolate hearts gift box or the heart candle or the neon heart wall art. The music store offers the “Musical Valentine’s Heart Shaped Box” for $1.99, also. You could continue the “gold” theme with other rewards from Sony’s Mansion, if you have them now or if you have a friend who will invite you to the Mansion to obtain the rewards, such as the animated gold china cabinet or the gold carpet.

A vanity table is a must, so check out the $1.49 “Show Biz” vanity stand and mirror from Sony Originals or use the Sony Mansion rewards of the gold desk and gold monitor, which look great together as a vanity. You may want to put several small items on your vanity or dresser, such as the perfume bottle from Lockwood gift machine. To continue the heart theme, you might consider the animated heart chair for $1.99 from Lockwood, available in several colors including pink. Or you might want a director’s chair instead, such as the ones from Game Mechanics, called “Personalized Canvas Chair” that come in eight colors and two heights. These $1.99 chairs have a unique feature where you can “write” on them. You’ll want to have your name, or perhaps “star”, written on it.

Party Spotlight

Also, check out the $1.99 party light from Juggernaut which can be set to have the light follow you all around your space and you can customize it with colors and filters; and nDreams’ Movie Star pack for $6.99, which has seven items such as a directors chair, red carpet, a cinema wall item and your own bodyguard and paparazzi standees. Most of these items would look great set up in the foyer where your guests arrive.

The absolutely perfect companion is available in the Sidekicks store, which is the mini paparazzi for $2.49 from Sony. This fellow follows you everywhere, constantly taking your picture as any self-respecting paparazzi would.

While stars seem to have the latest and greatest clothing items, they also set their own style, so look for combinations in your wardrobe which please you. Be sure to add large sunglasses when you’re out among your admiring fans. You’ll also need lots of swimsuits while lounging by the pool, so I suggest the swimsuit pack from Loot for $1.99, which is available for either gender. The female set has five two-piece suits in these colors or patterns – white, leopard, blue striped, gold and black – and the male pack has a bare “surfer” torso and four swim trunks in blue, red, yellow and green.

Bombshell Package

You could also pick up the four-piece Bombshell pack or the Playwright pack for $2.99 from Lockwood for a great Hollywood look. Threads Originals does have the Hollywood celebrity pack for the guys, but it’s $5.99 for the six pieces. By the way, if you’re a singing star, you’ll want one or more of the microphone hand items for $.49 from Lockwood, which is available in seven colors, such as gold, black, pink and blue.

In closing, I’d like to leave you with the words from a famous Hollywood song. Johnny Mercer and Richard Whiting wrote this tune in 1938 which was featured in the Hollywood Hotel.

Hooray for Hollywood!
That screwy, ballyhooey Hollywood,
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a good looking pan.
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan.

Hooray for Hollywood!
Where you’re terrific, if you’re even good.
Where anyone at all from Shirley Temple
To Aimee Semple is equally understood.
Go out and try your luck, you could be Donald Duck.
Hooray for Hollywood!

Hooray for Hollywood!
That phony, super cony Hollywood.
They come from Chillicothes and Padukahs
With their bazookas to get their names up in lights.
All armed with photos from local rotos
With their hair in ribbons and legs in tights.

Hooray for Hollywood!
You may be homely in your neighborhood
But if you think that you can be an actor,
See Mr. Factor, he’d make a monkey look good.
With a half an hour, you’ll look like Tyrone Power.
Hooray for Hollywood!

Home is endlessly entertaining to this California girl. Kassadee has been in Home for about four years, and loves almost everything about it (with a few notable exceptions). She spends way too much money there, and perhaps too much time... Someday she will travel the world and write about the people she meets and the places she sees.

  1. I didn’t do anything with my Hills till I got the ultimate fish tank which fits in well. Then what? I put a radio by the pool, some tables and chairs and sofas outside. Throw in a few movie type posters along with a popcorn machine, toilet area walled off downstairs, and a small kitchen upstairs and I’m done… although I’m not sure about where the bed goes for now it’s in a decent place maybe.
I a;ways liked the view and since the fish tank I have a place to listen to Loot radio which is built in.
But that bed? Where to put it…

    Nice job Kass,
I love your articles. The Hollywood Hills Space is just a beauty. You can imagine old Hollywood there celebrities, playwrights, models, etc. Your articles pull them all together in one place. They make it easy for people to track down the items they maybe looking for, or that they didn’t even know Home had.
