Billabong 2013

by Jin Lovelace, HSM team writer and filmmaker

After learning of VEEMEE’s new Billabong release for the Home community, my excitement was through the roof. So excited was I, in fact, that my delicious bacon and egg sandwich mistakenly flew right out of my hand and into the trash can. So yes, my celebration of the announcement of their new release in the North American region was just a bit over the top.

Let me break this down for you: where Diesel was the first to release their real-world commodity onto the Home, Billabong was the second. Though most were put off by the hefty price tag (each dress goes for $1.99, and all of their pants carry a $1.49 price on them), we’re talking about quality versus the quantity of fashion, as commonly seen on Home – never mind that real-world Billabong clothing doesn’t exactly have Target prices. What I love about the brand is how they can risk being different and make it look good. One of the quirky dresses they have, for example, is the Lovelorn apparel, which looks rather gothic in nature, but with the right accessories, can create a very wide variety of looks.

And it’s not as if their tank tops, sweaters, skirts, pants and shorts just aren’t over-exaggerating styles to create some sexy motif. If anything, they look like any piece you can find on the rack at any mid-to-high-end boutique. The creative ability lies within you and on how effective you can combine each piece with others.

This release looks to be more of a spring/summer release — for the ladies, I mean. The males have two surfer trunks, a tank, two hoodies and a very fine fedora priced at an astonishingly low (for Billabong) $0.49. The ladies get two dresses and two bikinis, one which I didn’t feature. This decision was based more on design rather than overall appeal.

This presentation is a nod to my first ever Twilight Touch video produced by my channel. My purpose was to add a subtlety factor to this piece, with a sense of relaxation and sensuality. To be honest, Norse’s video take on the Island Bungalow really inspired this video. I adore that personal abode.

You can read up on my upcoming article on these lovely designs at my website.

Your videos always make me give the clothing items you highlight another look over, as I see them in a new way through your eyes. Another great video, Jin!

^_^ Thanks, Kassadee! That’s how I desire my videos to be. If I can make just one difference and to showcase how these items are really worth the value, then I’m a happy camper! :D
