HomeCast: Mercia and Cutthroats

by xx96791DEATHxx, HSM team writer

In this episode of HomeCast, we feature Lockwood Publishing’s RPG, Mercia: Fractured Realms, and Sony VASG’s Cutthroats: The Battle for Black Powder Cove.

This show does run longer than most of the past episodes. I started writing a script that would cover the basics of the games chosen, but as I started playing Mercia, that changed. This game took me a while to get to level 20, and I had captured a lot of video during the game play. As I was reviewing the video, it became clear that there are a lot of things to cover in this game that I had not included in the script.

I never have written a video game review before, so I saw Mercia as chance to do so. I tried to cover the points of the game that the Home Community would want to know before heading out on the quests that lay before them.. Before I knew it, I had created a monster. This was to be the “A” block of the show, but it was running almost six minutes long, and I still had two other segments to add. In the end, I am not sure if I went into too much detail about the game. Let me know.

When I first envisioned how I would approach Cutthroats, what came to my mind immediately was of course a return of GingerBeard. When I did some research on this game, I came across a video from Sony. They had a pirate talking about the game, not unlike GingerBeard, but the pirate was in the bar. I wanted to recreate that in Home, and that is how this segment came to be. Thank you to Stephypeachz, VirtualKandi and HomeCast contest winner Sunshine555 for playing along.

This episode also brings to the HomeStation Network our new weather team of Sunny Summers and Wendell Stormsurge. Look for them, as they will be  bringing you Home’s weather updates periodically. If there is any company out there that is really called AAAggresive Insurance, then I hope we made you some money. Thank you to the effort of Olivia_Allin and Godzprototype for making those cute videos.

Lockwood Publishing was very generous in providing the video for their new game called Uproar. When I was approached about adding this HomeCast I was very happy to accommodate  This is  something I would like to see more of in HomeCast. I am on the fence though, as to whether all three were needed or if I could have just gotten by with one. Feel free for share your comments on that below.

My favorite part of this whole deal is actually the credits.  Every time I see them, they make me giggle. Thanks to Olivia_Allin for doing those dance moves in some deep snow.

We at HomeCast hope you have a prosperous New Year and look forward to seeing you in PlayStation Home.

    Great job as always.

I really thought Cutthroats would be a bigger hit. People are still playing it in pretty big numbers, but it rarely gets the mentions of other games in Home. Which is odd to me.

I thought having people play as their avatar shooting other avatars would be compelling. But you see almost no mention of the game in the forums. I wonder why that is.

    Thanks for the mention.

Thank you for this game. I find it a blast to play, a little disappointed by the personal space but hey..I hope someday there might be a mini game in the personal space where you could sink your friends ships…
