Dream Island: A Machinima Story, Part Three
by Phoenix, HSM team writer & filmmaker
Dream Island was breathtaking. Dean was still taking in his surroundings. He was trying to get used to the sudden sounds of life on the island. It was as if a switch had been thrown and the silence had changed to living, breathing Dolby surround sound. His ears pricked at every turn, he could hear clearly all night and day!
Day had come to the island. Dean surmised the twilight season had come to an end. As for the sounds, he was now bombarded with them, and he could not explain it, so Dean hung on tight to the sudden daylight cycle on the island as his explanation.
That first morning of sunlight had been like the first day of creation to his mind. The light was so amazing as it broke over the sea at dawn. Dean had been in awe of the otherworldly feeling he had experienced upon seeing it. That, coupled with the strange dream he had waken from twice now, Dean hadn’t far to go before he would be believing Dream Island had some secrets yet to be discovered
While taking his first swim of the day, Dean had been accompanied by dolphins. These beautiful creatures had come right up to him, and swam around him in playful circles. They had nudged him playfully and followed him as he swam. To his delight, they had taken to swimming behind the deck at the far side of the island. Dean had discovered other wildlife inhabiting the island; a large iguana could be seen sunning itself on the rocks near the front deck, and other, smaller kin just about anywhere there were large rocks in the sunlight. A family of geckos lived in the cave he had discovered while he was wandering about, listening to the sounds on the island.
Despite the burgeoning life on Dream Island, Dean still had the feeling of waiting. This feeling intensified when he found himself at the water’s edge; here he would spend a good deal of time just staring out to sea. It was during one of these times, just two days later, that he caught sight of something in the distant waves. Being a curious man, Dean took to the water and swam out to investigate. The call of birds overhead and in the distance was a nature inspired symphony. Schools of fish surrounded the island now and Dean was caught in the discovery of everything suddenly present. Questions swirled in his mind. Where had all the wildlife been these past few days? Was it possible they had been in hibernation?
