Body Painting: a Welcome Addition to Home
by KLCgame, HSM team writer
Over the years we have had plenty of controversial outfits and other items in PlayStation Home, from pixelated privates and erotic dancers, to the now infamous Amazonian outfit. So it comes to no surprise that JAM Games now brings us The Painted Bare collection. The outfits are advertised as follows:
“Why wear clothes made of boring old material, when you can be your own work of art and wear paint? These hand-painted masterpieces let you show off in style and be a little different from the crowd! Will you choose to be an intricate painting of beauty as Madame Flutterby, be sleek and stunning as Lady Purrfect, show your strength with war paint as the Gladiatorial Hero or go for a more abstract paint effect as the Alien Reptilaman or Mistress Multi-Colored? Whatever you decide, you can complete the look with matching shoes and accessories! We hope you enjoy the free gift for your apartments too! Dazzle all those around you… Show your artistic flair, be Painted Bare!”
Well, let’s be honest here: this is not the first time – and it probably won’t be the last time – on PlayStation Home that outfits are literally unclothed, naked, or however you want to word it. Since the early days of Home, when LOOT released the android outfits, there has been by all means nudity or near nudity, but few people made any comments about them. For me personally, the android outfits are still favorites and pairing it with the nDreams Ice Hero locomotion just makes my day. Heavy Water’s pinup girls were blatantly sexual. However in my humble opinion, all that is fine, because video games are often sexual and television is sexual as well; everywhere you look you will find sexual ads or just straight up nudity.
With all that said, I don’t think JAM games is releasing these outfits just to be deliberately goofy, racy or to raise eyebrows like other companies may have done with their more “out there” apparel. I truly believe that JAM Games is trying to appeal to people that may enjoy body art and body painting outside of PlayStation Home. The “furry” & Goth cultures are now represented on Home because they are quite well known outside of Home.
I believe it is about time the body painting culture is also represented in Home, and maybe this will give the culture more exposure in the outside world. Because make no doubt about it: the people that create the body art are nothing less than true artists. Often during the body painting competitions, parties/events or even on an online gallery of a body painter’s abilities the painters and models work together and create amazing outfits and sometimes they even create optical illusions by pairing human and inanimate canvases together.
It is said that, “a picture paints a thousand words,” but I feel that art is a light into the artist’s soul, and when you combine that with a human canvas (or avatar canvas) it touches us all deep down.
Now back to the in Home adaptations of this awe-inspiring art form. I personally prefer the male outfits of The Painted Bare collection, but that is just my opinion. That said, I honestly hope this is the first pack of many in JAM Games’ Painted Bare collection because with body art, at least on PlayStation Home, your only limits are your imagination – and the ESRB regulations.
In turn, ever since JAM came on to the scene a few months ago, they have been bringing out new and innovative items constantly and that definitely gives me hope about PlayStation Home’s future. So get out there and show your support of these new outfits created by JAM Games. They are an up and coming developer and the only way you can do this is by digging in your pocketbooks and buying their products or we may not get more of these amazing outfits.

I definitely admire the work of the detail that goes into some body art. I won’t ever wander around Home with one of these on but I’m very happy to see some fresh ideas coming out rather than more wings, bikinis and school uniforms (what is that about anyway!?).
I picked up the free easel though and was quite happy to see it fit snugly on the balcony of my Harbor Studio where it can reflect it’s inspired image perfectly -- I thought it’d just be a random low-grade image.
Kudos to JAM games for trying something different!
I like Jam Games.I bought Beebee Bit as soon as I could and this new body paint looks amazing up close.I saw “Lady Purrfect” last night at Aurora doing some ballerina dance moves and she looked just like a character from the musical Cats!It was quite impressive.Cool article,I enjoyed reading it.
Painted “Bare” is a misnomer. The female avatars have very obvious white bikinis on under that paint.
Well even the pixelated gear has a black censor bra and speedo. So no one is ever really nude.
I saw someone with body paint and talked with them (sort of) and it was interesting to say the least. With a world full of troubles it’s nice to have something to be amused about. Oh sure! Now I might get in trouble for being amused by art but so be it.
I’ll add the company that did this has a free easel painting in the STORE that is quite nice, a painting of the Harbour apartment.
The funniest thing about this release is of how this is received with great love but the U Love Green designs were simply known as “Hoochie Fits”.
It’s fascinating of how the Home community thinks these days. Personally, I find both to be excellent work.
I love JAM games. They are cute, risque, and definitely something to watch for. These Painted Bare items are nothing short but breathtaking.
Good read.
