Underwater and Loving It
by Kassadee Marie, HSM team writer
One of the first personal estates that I purchased in Home was the underwater Neptune Suite. I love this space! I especially love the whale who swims by just outside the huge windows every now and then. I named him Richard, and in my mind he’s the same whale that jumps out of the water near the Sunset Yacht. This dude gets around!
When Juggernaut Games came out with the Nautilus Adventure Pack, I was thinking about where I would choose to use it, and I decided it would be at Neptune. The entire bundle includes eleven furniture items, two companions and two complete outfits each for females and males — all for only $14.99. If these items were purchased separately, they would total $31.20. And even the three packs purchased separately would be $18.97, so the complete bundle is a super, super bargain.
First, I put on the blue sea nymph outfit, which has five pieces and also comes in a lovely violet shade. These outfits, although they are cute, really well made, and full of thoughtful features, such as a matching anklet and a pink sea anemone hair accessory, are definitely not for the shy. While there are two male outfits included, I didn’t try them on. I’ve seen them being worn, though and they look great. Next, I put out each of the companions. Both are steampunk themed, and you’ll love them if this is your preferred style choice. The Bubbly Submarine floats at head height and shoots missiles occasionally, while Fredrick von Copperbottom walks around in his diving outfit, shining a light about and twirling his pincers.
Then, I pulled the furniture items out one by one, to view and to decorate with them. The following comments are my first impressions. By the way, the Nautilus furniture bundle has eleven items, and is sold separately is only $9.99. That’s right; these items are less that a dollar apiece! Only the wall item and the shell table are not active, and the active items take between one and six furniture slots, with most taking only one or three slots each.
My first item was the “porthole”. I adore the new wall items that look like windows with animations, and the one from this pack looks fabulous here, although the water is a touch greener than the water outside of the Neptune space. I’m usually careful to put these items on outside walls to help keep a sense of realism. Next was …OMG! The Lanternfish Castle! I set it out and then walked near it. I was thinking it looked cute and the fish were bright and interesting, when I walked away… and the fish followed me! I laughed right out loud.
The third item was the Nautilus Shell Lamp, which is interesting to look at, as one of the more steampunk-ish items in this set. It floats while chained to a heavy-seeming object, and it’s awesome to use. The glow it spreads is fairly wide-reaching, and is patterned with realistic underwater ripples. You can choose from nine incredible colors, or set it to cycle through the colors.
The next item out was the Bubble Fissure. This piece adds a lot to the underwater feel, and so does the Bioluminescent Kelp, which I brought out right after. The kelp glows with an eerie blue color, and it sways gently back and forth. I put them both all over, as they only take one and two furniture slots, respectively.
I then quickly pulled out the Nautilus Shell Table, which is attractive and makes a very nice coffee table, and the Coral Reef Sofa. This sofa is a bit on the small side compared to the table, so I put several of them together and I really like the look.
After that, I pulled out all three chairs to decide how I would use them and where I would put them. These are the Nautilus Chair, the Clamshell Chair and the Sea Captain’s Chair. They all look great – the Captain’s Chair is very steampunk, and it swivels. And they all three fit especially well in corners. When you sit in them, your avatar gains new poses. Since I’ve been looking at my avatar for over two and half years, I’m thrilled to have new sitting poses. You can also take your picture while sitting in these chairs, which is a very nice touch.
I decided to use the Captain’s Chair as dining chairs as soon as I saw it. It works very well, paired with the large and fabulous Aquarium Table as my dining table. I used the other two chairs in the area I had designated as the living room. I love sitting in the Clamshell Chair in my nymph outfit, like a (dressed) Venus on the Half Shell. I wish they’d made a clamshell bed as well!
When I was finished decorating and admiring my handiwork, I just wanted to stay in my space and enjoy it. These items not only gave the Neptune Suite an underwater look, but they somehow gave it a comfortable, homey look, too. I could easily imagine that I was a mermaid living in an undersea city and enjoying all the beauty and wonder to be found there. At the same time, I could see another person taking the more steampunk-looking items and adding them to furniture from Juggernaut’s Steampunk Adventure Pack bundle ($4.99 for six items, including a companion) and making a Nautilus submarine space, to rove the oceans beneath the waves as Captain Nemo.
Everything looks great there at Neptune Suite, but I have to say, I’d love to see the gang at Juggernaut design an underwater personal space to go with this fabulous furniture. Those people are so inventive and artistic! I’m running out of words to describe how incredible their items all are and I’m thinking about making up some new ones, like “fantabulolistic”.
Yes, I am a Juggernaut fangirl, but I wouldn’t hesitate to criticize them — if I could just find something to criticize.
I didn’t buy this pack because I don’t really have a space to use it in, but I have seen all of the pieces and it is a nice bunch of furniture. I have friends who have done some very nice decorating with them, the Veemee underwater apartment you win from the fishing game works well for these too. I guess you could build a Blueprint house and use the Juggernaut underwater orb to have some fun with them as well. Good job as always Kass.
I have actually managed to turn my Harbour Studio into an underwater steampunk paradise. It wasn’t easy, but the Fog Machine helped a lot, as did placing carved screens in front of the windows to dim the light. The Nautilus Adventure Pack is an epic collection.
Although it doesn’t come with the Adventure Pack, the Essence of Tides is well worth the purchase price as well. I almost hesitate to point this out, but being able to swim or fly anywhere in a space, including outside the central habitable box, is a boon for those of us who enjoy the occasional “scientific investigation”. I love swimming with my whale in the Neptune Suite. Did you realize that he’s transparent from the far side?
I have had the thrill of “touching” Richard as he swam by, but I’ve never seen his backside… errr, so to speak. I love how the colorful schools of tiny fish are only two-dimensional.
Sadly, I removed anything outside the space with this recent re-deco, due to the new-ish solidity of the windows. (I’m not much of a scientist, I’m afraid.) I did put on bubble fissure out there, for old times sake.
The Essence of the Tides will be my next purchase. I tried is out at a few of a friend’s places. It is incredible at the Loot Space Apartment, by the way. Mer-people in space!
