Game Mechanics Gives Us Elegance
by Burbie52, HSM team writer
Home is constantly changing things, from games to personal space development, from companion interaction to locomotion methods. We have been receiving an avalanche of new content in the past few months, particularly since the beginning of December. After all, developers are smart enough to know that PSN cards will be gifted for Christmas, and new PS3 consoles will be as well. And so we are deluged with new ideas and virtual commodities vying for our dollars.
But once in a while someone comes out with a product that really steals the show — a product that we have been wanting for a long time. The new Elegant Line from Game Mechanics includes several of those products.
When you are a decorator in Home, there are some complaints and requests you encounter on a regular basis. One pet peeve that decorators have always had was the distance we had to sit from any table or desk to avoid getting stuck. Game Mechanics’ sports line, the Contender series, was not only a perfect addition to any sport lovers space, but they also were the first items that let you sit close to a table or desk, by integrating the table and chairs as a single active item. This not only revolutionized interior design, it actually cost the decorator fewer slots to do it! Using three slots for five pieces of furniture is a godsend to decorators, who always seem to be stuck deciding between pieces to display as they try to fill the huge estates we have been getting.
In the Elegant Line, we once again have the ability to use fewer slots to decorate our spaces, and we can do so with a lot of class as well. There are two nice looking table-and-chair sets with five pieces of furniture that only take up three furniture slots. These are meant to be functional furniture that will fit into many environments. Another beautiful table takes six slots, but does some amazing things.
At first glance you might say, “Six? But there are only five pieces of furniture there — that isn’t helping me.” But take a closer look here: you also have the ability to change the table’s colors, including the vase in the center, and add from one to four complete place settings for your guests! Up until now, there has only been one set of place settings available to us, and each one placed takes up a full furniture slot. So in this table you are essentially getting not five but ten furniture items (counting the vase) for only six slots in your inventory, and you are doing it in style! The colors you can choose are pastels of blue, green and pink, as well as a nice bright red.
There are three other pieces of furniture available to round out your Elegant Line. One is a wonderful canopy, something we have never had before. There is also a chair and a very nice couch for your guests. I can see this furniture line being used in weddings all over Home. These are going to be must-have items for those who throw wedding parties for others on a regular basis, especially that table.
The projected prices of these pieces is very reasonable. They range from $.49 for the elegant chair to $2.99 for the interactive table.
I hope that this is the future of all furniture lines in Home. Give us active pieces that save us furniture slots, if the total furniture slots can’t expand beyond one hundred. This is going to be a huge hit with anyone who decorates in Home, and I believe the number of people who are really getting into the decorating meta game has increased a great deal in the past year. Clubs based on decorating are popping up all over the place.
Keep up the good work, Game Mechanics. You create it, and we will buy.
I love the idea of being able to change the color of furnitures. And I’m glad I waited of the “festive” one. This elegant set will better suit my needs. This type of option is a real deal for customers. It’s like owning a bundle but much convenient…. and cheaper! It’s the opposite of some pants/shoes combo offered for female. Where if they want 3 colors of pants with 3 colors of shoes they need to buy 9 items!
Especialy with game mechanics prices. I remember Ted talking about fair price. I tought “we’ll wait and see fair for whom” Am I glad I kept that tought for myself? lol
I might try to put these in my default place, the luxury cabin. You know the one with the fridge and microwave door? First (civilian) place I bought and it still my “official” home. Or the tropical place, where I will spending the holydays, enough real snow here
Wonderful items, more than fair prices. You guys ROCK!
I definitely like the unifed table-plus-chairs items. Chair positioning has always been a headache in Home. If the chairs are far enough from the table so you don’t get stuck, you don’t look like you’re sitting at the table any more.
Looking at the tables, I can’t help thinking that some more styles of desk-plus-chair would also be welcome. A desk-plus-chair-plus-lamp combo would be epic. And what about a desk-plus-chair-plus-lamp-plus-computer, which included a “typing” emote? That would be great for machinimists!
I know — give her one thing and she wants fifteen. But I can really see the possibilities. Good work, Game Mechanics!
A browser with you desk plus chair plus lamp plus computer? lol
