Lockwood Goes to the Bathroom

Bathrooms?

Some of you might say this is silly; why would we need bathrooms in Home? We don’t use them at all and never will.

Except that we don’t eat the food items, either — but that doesn’t stop them being created and sold. To the decorating aficionados out there, this is a great day in Home: because something we have asked for is finally here. Once again, Lockwood listened, and now we have the new Cucumber bathroom furniture.

I wasn’t the only one celebrating when this came out. Several friends who are decorating nuts all chimed in with positive response. And why not? This is the one thing they (and we) have perennially lacked in Home. At one time, kitchens were what was lacking, with only the Ghostbusters kitchen pieces to choose from. Both VEEMEE and Lockwood filled that gap, and now Lockwood has done it again with bathrooms.

The perfect Harbor bath.

What’s particularly clever is that Lockwood not only gave us two great choices in their stores, but also the ability to gift pieces to others. I am sure all of us know people who don’t have the means right now to obtain these items, and Lockwood handled this quite ingeniously by making the style in the gift machine a totally different one than was obtainable in their stores. It’s little touches like this that keep driving traffic to the gift machine and away from other competing commerce points.

I bought the Woodland bathroom set for myself. It’s very classic and easy to add to any space you choose because the colors are neutral. This is going to become a staple of my own interior designs, starting with Harbour Studio — because I really do love that underrated space, and it’s remarkably adaptable to a wide range of themes. A bathroom was sorely lacking, and now I feel it is finally complete.

There are many personal spaces in Home that won’t look “right” with modular bathrooms and kitchens. Some are just not designed to have these kinds of areas in them. Which brings up an interesting question: is it important for developers to take such things as modular room appurtenances into account when designing a space? Does the consumer like a specialized estate, or do they like something that more naturally lends itself to “conventional” decoration? And, further, do we like the idea of modular kitchens and bathrooms over bespoke setups in estates? On one hand, an estate with a built-in bathroom or kitchen frees up inventory slots, but on the other hand it means that the kitchen must be the kitchen, with no way to do something else with that space.

As to the furniture items themselves, I’m personally very pleased with Lockwood’s offerings here. A shower stall that you can actually stand in, a tub that lets you sit and lay back, a toilet seat, a fashionable shelving unit you can actually use and some very nice decorative items? Candles, towels, a toilet paper stand, laundry basket,  heated towel rack, rug, a non-slip mat that fits neatly into the shower area and a set of toiletries? Absolutely perfect. These come in a combo pack for only $5.99, or separately for anywhere from $1.49 to $.49. The combo is by far the best deal, just like it usually is with Lockwood products.

You can’t send all of these pieces through the gift machine though. It has the shower, tub and shelf for 256 coins, the toilet and drying rack are 128 coins, the rug and mat are 64, towels are 32 and the laundry basket is only 16.

Lockwood is always showing us that they care about what we want in Home, and the quality levels of the resulting products are always top notch.  This new Cucumber furniture is proof of that yet again, and it is very welcome.

I love the color yellow and I’m trying to figure out if the other bathroom is yellow or yellow-green. Some of the pieces look pure yellow in the video and some look more greenish, although I’m sure the color matches in all the pieces in “reality”. If it’s pure yellow I’ll buy it, if it’s yellow-green I’ll buy the Woodland set, even though it has a hint of masculinity about it to me. So, I need to see the “yellow” set or have work from Lockwood before I buy.

If we are going to get modular pieces of furniture like kitchens and bathrooms we really need a personal space to be able to use them properly, a Dolls house would be best example somewhere where the walls are in place for kitchens and bathrooms. Currently if there are rooms that can be assigned to bathrooms and kitchens the space generally has them fitted already. Kitchens are easier to find homes for. But bathrooms I certainly wouldnt be putting a toilet in a room that wasnt separated by a full size wall and door. What a thought having a toilet in listening distance and open to the dining table or living room, ergh. I know its not real life and I love to decorate I have approx 70 personal spaces and very few furniture items are duplicated nearly all spaces are themed. But I cant think of many spaces Id be happy putting a bathroom. Be warned gifting the bathroom is expensive the gift machine cannot not do bundles unfortunately

I agree with you Gary, there is a shortage of spaces properly created for use of these items, but there are full sized walls available in Loot, they have a big blue Ghostbusters wall sold singly and a nice wood one that looks the same in their flats bundle ( which I wish they would sell alone as well, I would buy it in a heartbeat if they did). I like using the space wall divider they have as well and Blueprint is the perfect choice as you can build your own space with a bath included. I used this there as well.

The Cutteridge Estate has an empty bathroom.

Cutteridge estate I got a bath there from Paris modern and a skull jumps out of it lol the only other place with a possible bathroom place is dream island, but eats up item numbers and I’m not removing my tv to put a shower in, I’m a bloke I’ll shower in the waterfall and nip into the sea when nature calls lol. I’ve tried the loot walls they are only effective in the studio due to height and the legs on the back. Perhaps we could have a personal space with preset rooms and we could have different style packs for each room and garden.

Yeah the blue and wood Loot walls are very tall, they fit in quite a few spaces and I wouldn’t ever use the flat styles at all, which is why I have never bought the flat set that includes the nice wood one. I think that any developer who creates free standing walls with door and in varying sizes is going to make a mint in Home. It would be an easy solution to the bath rooms problem for sure, but they have to have some with doorways we can walk through and some regular walls. I said so in my article several months ago about what we are missing in furniture. Here is a link http://www.hsmagazine.net/2011/12/home-furnishings-is-something-missing/

Now I can add a shower stall to the Penthouse! I have no idea why there’s not one there already.

Great article Burbie, informative and lighthearted! It’s about time we got a decent bathroom. My avatar won’t have to go to the complementary casino hotel room now! The green kind of reminds me of that retro two tone green appliance color that was popular in the 70’s.

  6. These items are a welcome addition. Although I didn’t buy them all, I probably will. We used to request some of these things and through the years we got some. I don’t recall a shower being asked for but I love it. I didn’t notice the toilet paper roll so I suppose I shall have to pick that up even though the restroom wall with a toilet paper roll on it works in some places.

I use the Loot wood wall in my Log Cabin in the second room (the only place it’ll fit) to build a bedroom.
And I put the shower in the bedroom along side the previously installed toilet.
Hey! It saves going outside to the outhouse or the lake to bathe on a cold day.
    ;)
