Granzella’s Roller Skates

Rollerskates!

I have to say right off the bat: I am very happy to see these come into Home.  There are a few color variations on the two different types of wheels. And one of the best features is that the skates can be worn with any of your shoes from your wardrobe. There are the in-line skates for more speed, whereas the four-wheel skates are meant to be of a classic style. They are a little slower. But even with this it does serve a purpose: slower skating.

So now I will begin to tell you why such an item is a worthwhile investment. And why people really should go buy them. The new emotes under our personal items have certainly been a hit: dancing, flying, and now skating. The new dance emotes by Street Moves are a lot of fun for the most part because they are new. We have been doing the same dances for years. Hoping more of these are headed our way.

Flight comes from a few of different sources. Juggernaut, nDreams and Heavy Water have made different versions of flight — of which I personally believe Juggernaut and Heavy Water seem to have gotten the point to it. Not that the imitation of flight isn’t important; you just have to be extremely creative in order to appreciate it in full.

And finally – roller skating!

Roller skating has a unique and interesting perspective. When I was growing up, sometimes my folks would drop me off at a skating rink. I saw how people interacted there, and what interested people about being in this place. Usually it was pretty dark. Lots of people on the move. For some, it was another version of a bowling alley, with quite a bit more interaction with each other. I can imagine that for the ones who were on skates, they felt free. Flight comes to mind. Not completely free of gravity, but close enough to keep you going out there.

I would stay sometimes until it was almost time for closing. Things would get wild at night. Always interesting, though. So I got my skates as soon as they came out here in the US. Some friends and I went immediately to the Xi Museum, and then I remembered how it felt to do this again. We tried the MotorStorm Carrier. That place seemed to just be perfect for this type of excursion. Custom lights, smoke, lasers, ramps, and last — but most importantly — music.

Both of those places just felt awesome, as we had plenty of room to roll around together. Do spins, whatever. We all couldn’t help but to notice one thing that was missing from the experience. We thought the skates needed a jump button. I am curious to know how many buttons can be mapped for these new emotes. Some of the flight emotes have it so you can use the square button for extra speed. And so it came to mind that this would be a great button for a small jump or backward skating. If any of the other buttons can be mapped like the triangle, square, or x buttons. Why not spins, moves, backward skating, and jumps? Fluid motion really does make having a good time together so much more fun. As we continue to get things that we can use in tandem with our own avatars. There will be a lot of money to be made, and good times to be had.

It is quite obvious as people begin to use the skates with each other: some of these things will become apparent to all of them. I know my friends had a lot of fun rolling around together in various spaces. It would be nice to see a public space made for these new emotes — a public place and a clubhouse. With all the lights and smoke and lasers. A DJ booth, and possibly an arcade with a make your own pizza game. The store in this space could be the place where you buy your skates. Just all sounds like fun for a Friday or Saturday night.

Fluid motion isn’t an easy thing to achieve, I can imagine. But it really is important to a consumer that enjoys hanging out, dancing or exploring with their friends. Seeing some of these new emotes come into Home excites me to the possibilities developers have in front of them. It would be really nice to see the potential in the emotes unleashed in full by mapping any buttons available with unique moves or gesticulations. They will make our experience much more memorable and fun.

It’s time to go skating.

Nice read, you nearly had me running out to buy a pair there too! But you’re right about needing a dedicated space for this kind of locomotion. Imagine the kinda place we’ll need when the hover bikes get here! These new forms of travel feel rather contained now, because of the typical size of spaces. It’ll be interesting to see the knock-on effect these locomotion’s will have on future space sizes.

Great article Godz. I love these skates! I have been wearing them and showing them to people a lot since i got them on Wednesday. I think that having at least a jumping addition for these is a must. I don’t know if it is possible while you are moving. The skate boards have that, but you can only do it from a standing position. Would be cool if we could though.
A roller rink, or skating, combination bowling alley personal space would sell like hotcakes I think. If they could do one like the Red Bull one that had the ramps and no game built in, then add the bowling as a built in game people would flock to buy it for sure. Many have been asking for a bowling alley forever now as it is almost impossible to play that game in the public one, it is too busy.
With the saturated market, being pretty is all well and good, but people are demanding more in functionality and this would be a great one.
Oh, did I say, I LOVE MY SKATES!!!
