Go Mass Media on a Budget
by Kassadee_Marie, HSM team writer
Every year, Humpback and Blue whales migrate past the Farallon Islands off Central California from May through November, and Gray Whales migrate all along the California coast from December through April. Living in California, near the San Francisco Bay Area, I’ve wanted to go on a whale-watching expedition for a very long time. I’ll make it out there yet, and when I do, I know it will be the experience of a lifetime and something I will never, ever forget.
The first time I was invited to visit the Neptune Suite and I saw the whale leisurely swim by so close, it took my breath away, and I immediately wanted to go through that enormous window and touch the whale. Thanks to some glitching friends, I’ve had that wonderful virtual experience. I knew then that I would have to buy this space and have it for my own.
After I bought this personal estate, I found that it had a lot of other great features, such as its art pieces, large size, huge built-in fire pit and all those diverse areas on various levels. Other features are a dance floor with music; two fun games with rewards, called Scramble and Blast Zone; an indoor pond and fish tanks (which contain no fish, by the way, but are still interesting); teleporters between floors and areas; and a somewhat mechanical yet marine-invertebrate-like virtual pet who follows the space’s owner all around the apartment after he or she approaches it.
Mass Media did such a remarkably great job with this space, I wish they would add more of them to their personal estate lineup. This extraordinary underwater demesne is available in the Sony store for $6.99 in a bundle with four chairs, a sofa, coffee table, zinc planter, a digital clock and a painting called “The Eye”, and I believe this is the best, most cost effective way to purchase it.
Mass Media also offers one of my favorite little furniture bundles, called the Tuxedo Pack, which I have often recommended. For $1.49 the purchaser receives a large couch, love seat and chair in black and white with red pillows. These are some of the most versatile pieces of furniture offered in Home, and they have an almost chameleon effect of blending in with, and yet enhancing, their surroundings. This developer also offers four other furniture packs for $1.99 each. Three of these bundles, called “Stripes and Solids”, “Zig Zag Woods” and “Artsy Seats”, have three pieces each. One, called the “Mix-it-up Collection”, has four furniture items, which are two chairs, a slant-backed love seat and a glass coffee table. Also, Mass Media is the place to pick up that necessary item to make your Home bathroom look complete, for $.99 in white.
There is a cute little companion item from Mass Media called the Unidentified Following Object (UFO) that you may not have seen before, but you may find it to be very much to your liking. This companion sells for $1.49, which makes it one of the least expensive ones on Home that isn’t completely free. You can find it under the Weird Wear tab.
It’s in Weird Wear, of course, that you can also find the fun, the unusual and the truly bizarre in clothing items. These costumes may strike you as hysterically funny or they may seem a little too far out there to you, but Home is made up of all kinds of people, with varying tastes. This is one of the many, many interesting things about our virtual world. If you look around a while in public spaces, you are bound to see most, if not all, of their items worn by someone at some time.
You can find an uncommon assortment of odds and ends there at Mass Media, too. They provide the largest selection of horns to be found on Home, and you can also find halos, bunny ears (blue for boys and pink for girls at $.99 each), purses for both genders, and much more. I’m rather fond of the arrow through the head, and I like to wear it on days that I have a headache.
If you want to extend your Midway experience into your free personal space, Darla’s Den, you can pick up the bar key for $3.49, which gives access to the “bar” area in the den and then you will get access to the Bell Ringer game and to the Trigger Happy In-A-Box game, which is priced at $2.99 in the Games store by itself. These two games are amusing to play and take some good hand and eye coordination to beat. They both offer a lot of rewards, including interesting jackets and my personal favorite, the purple elephant stuffed animal toy.
You may think of Mass Media as the people who brought us the Midway spaces (I, II and III) with all those games to play and rewards to win, or as the developers of the very unusual Weird Wear clothing line. While these public spaces and extraordinary items were brought to us by this developer, they are also a third-party developer who has been around Home for quite a while now, with a diverse product line, and they are still going strong. I look forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the future, and I hope we will be seeing new estates, more great furniture, fun companions and games from them very soon.
Once again you summarize a developers store very well Kass. I have several of these pieces already and I like the styles they have available. Good read.
