Spooky VICKIE Art Contest Finalists Announced
by MJG74, HSM Art Director
Although HomeStation is known primarily as a literary journal, its artistry is just as important; Home is a medium experienced visually, and just as we admire the artwork of the people who create it — art which is, at times, surprisingly subtle and detailed — we should ourselves aspire to use Home as a canvas (or at least as inspiration) to create our own art.
Always strive to create. Always. You never know who might see it. I checked some numbers recently, and in the two years since HSM began, it has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people. Every word, every machinima, and yes, every piece of art — all of them have been seen by countless people, across 188 different countries on the planet.
Considering Earth has, what, only 196 countries or so in total, that’s not too bad.
Home isn’t a video game. Video games are a passive experience. Home, on the other hand, is much more interactive. And you can either be a part of that interaction, or let others do it for you. And when opportunities present themselves, you should seize them. In my own case, I entered an AlphaZone4 art contest and ended up designing a virtual furniture item for Home (coming soon). Our previous VICKIE contest saw a member of the community — tdarb — published in Home itself (via the Lockwood gift machine) with the canonical backstory for VICKIE. And for those of you who entered this contest, you know that Lockwood has been looking at your work.
As a fellow artist, I want to thank and congratulate all of our contestants. It was exceptionally difficult to narrow down the field to three finalists. For those of you whose contest ends here, please know that your work — every single entry — was remarkable. For the three people I’m about to announce, two of you have already won Lockwood Halloween PODI equipment, as well as Gallu the Ghoul outfits. The only question is who will win the Iron Fusion Panthabot content, which hasn’t even been released into Home yet!
Thus, without further ado, our three finalists:
Finalist #1: Spooky Vickie, by Seth-Ris
———–
Finalist #2: LKWD Lion Vickie, by Krisiambo
———–
Finalist #3: Vickie, by Fonix
———–
Who will win the grand prize, which goes live after October 31st? That is for Lockwood to decide.
As an added bonus, the winner’s artwork will also be published and featured on the cover to a Halloween-themed special issue of HomeStation Magazine , which will be jampacked with Halloween Home goodness and a whole bunch of hidden codes! How about that, huh? HSM is designed to be a high-visibility platform for community writing and artistry, and we’re putting our cover where our mouth is.
Congratulations again to all who entered, and we all look forward to seeing whom Lockwood chooses as the grand prize winner!
I liked a three!! Congrats you guys
I like them all but I think the first entree is definitely imaginative and speaks volume on “Spooky” with the cyber vixen. Excellent job, indeed.
Thanks so much for choosing mine as one of the three ^^
Good luck to everyone!
Thank you for chosing me as a finalist! Can’t wait to see if I get that sweet content!
Thanks for including my art Kate! All of these projects are amazing…I had already pinned several of these as my favorites too!
