The Life of Water

It’s the scenery that creates so much of the ambience in Home. The leaves, the flowers, the mountains in the distance, the rolling green hills – but, most of all – the incredible range of water scenes in Home. It is food for the soul. From sunset relected in the surface of a lake, to the steam rising from a hot tub, to the ocean roiling from the thrust of the yacht moving through it, the water in here touches us inside, silently, and relentlessly.

Remember the thrill of the first time on a yacht when you discovered there were whales and pelicans and the scenery gliding by.  That feeling of deep inner peace sitting by the waterfall plunging past the terrace and the suspense-building tension of the water dripping in the lobby of the Rapture Metro Apartment.

My first love of the use of water in Home was the Neptune Suite. The awe of seeing a whale just – there – so close in all it’s majesty, gliding past the window. And then, the Irem beach. Someone from Irem must have had a glorious vacation in Bora Bora and taken a load of pictures because I recognized that beach – and the over-the-water bungalows that made Bora Bora famous.

Same reaction to the other beaches in Home. The attention to detail: light, movement, shades of colors, muted transparency, and wildlife within that water is awe-inspiring.  Ironically, the young people in Home are so accustomed to incredible graphics in video games these days, that they might not understand how long it has taken to reach this level of proficiency. But, technical skills aside, these artists have put their soul into some of this work.  It goes far beyond the parameters of the typical ‘personal space’ for a team to create a work of art such as Lockwood has just done with their new totally immersive love affair with an island.

I will be there.  A lot.  Come visit.

Keara is also known in Home as DarthGranny. She is a wicked little old lady with a wild sense of humor.

Loved that Granny! Great job! It is amazing how many places in Home have water as a part of their makeup. It is truly a big piece of the Home environment. Very nice.
