PS3 Party Crew: A Club With A Mission

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”
–Anatole France

Life is what you make it. This truism has been used many times by many people. I would add that Home is what you make of it, and I think it is equally true. Those of us who do things in and for the Home community — those that make a positive “difference” in it — these are the people who shape what Home truly is or can become.

PS3 Party Crew is a group of dedicated Home users who fit this mold. Their mission? To make Home a better experience for others and themselves.

Created in May of 2011, just after Home’s return from the Great PSN Outage, the club has flourished ever since because of the dedication of its members. It was started because this group of friends hadn’t been able to communicate with each other during the outage, and they didn’t like that. So when they got back, Sicccre, along with Steph_da_killa, Avalon88st_killa and Yakima 94 formed the beginning club with the intent of creating a “drama-free movement”, having seen and experienced drama and bullying first hand. Most of these people were fairly new to Home before the outage, having been in it a few months at best.

So, instead of getting angry, they decided to do something about it. They turned the experience around by buying and updating their wardrobes and items each week, and adopted their slogan, “We Stay Fresh” — fresh clothes, fresh parties, fresh people, with fresh attitudes. They also helped other newcomers to Home with obtaining rewards and by gifting them from the Lockwood machine. They took new people on “field trips,” with Avalon serving as the guide many times to help them get free clothing rewards and familiarize them with Home’s layout.

“We were able to relate to new members of the PlayStation Network because we ourselves were recently fresh new members to Home. When the network came back on we then excelled on Home in the party scene. We brought together gamers on Home from all different spaces, groups, clubs, organizations, with our positive message, great music for young and old, and a fun club environment that imitated real clubs,” said Sicccre.

Parties, contests and party-related games made them a very popular group. An example of one of the games is called “RACE to the Money.” Once the club is  filled with the maximum number of people, the DJ puts a PSN card number in his pop-up bubble for the crowd to race to get all the numbers and enter them in their PlayStation Network account.  Whomever does it first wins and the club is then refilled, allowing more guests to come in, and the game is repeated. As you can imagine, this is a very popular game.

Sicccre has also become well known as a much sought-after DJ for parties done by others. It wasn’t something he planned for; when they started out they had no DJ, so Sicccre was supposed to just be a “stand-in” for a while until one was found, but then the demand for his work encouraged him to continue. He is now known as “DJ Sicc”.

Another thing that the club does is fashion shows, though they aren’t done with as much frequency as parties or videos. They are overseen by Sicccre with Steph, and they have a lot of fun with them, just like everything else they do.

An older party from the early days.

Then came the day that they saw a video done by another club, Incognito, called “Shoot a Noob” in the Community Theater. This inspired Sicccre to add to his club’s activities by creating videos in Home — so as soon as the LOOT active camera became available for actual filming, they got started. They were then inspired by Alinea3 video “Alors on Danse”  and decided to take the leap into music videos. They began a series called “Avatar Remix”, and this gave birth to their P-Crew Productionz section of the club. They did a wonderful video based on the “Saw” movies just for fun; it was a step away from what they normally do, but it was done to stretch the group creatively.

It also turned out that Sicccre had submitted a music video machinima in the PS Talent/LOOT Superhero contest that was recently held. So I watched what he had done and was very impressed with what I saw. The fact that this was made in Home with only the LOOT camera was very cool, and though the film quality wasn’t as good as a PVR used outside of Home can be, it was still very well done considering the limitations. Shortly afterward, Sicccre and his P-Crew Productionz ended up winning the first place with his machinima in the contest for Superhero.

The have a dedicated website where you can become a part of the group and learn more about what they do and who they are: PS3Party Crew

I wanted to see what made PS3PartyCrew work as a team and as a club, so I went to see them and spoke to many of the original core group at their clubhouse. I sat down with Sicccre, Steph_da_killa, Avalon88st_killa, Bigtell, Darietoosweet, and Vazman123 and asked them a few questions.

HSM: What do you like most about the club?

PS3PartyCrew: We love the diversity of not only our events and projects but also of our members. We range in age from eighteen to forty-five and many are very involved in club activities. Also the positive attitudes and influence that we try to show to each other and all of those around us.

HSM: Does having won the LOOT contest for Super Hero fulfill a goal for you?

PS3PartyCrew: Getting the video put on the EOD and in the theater did that. This was our goal from the start, to produce something good enough to be considered for the theater. Winning the contest was like the icing on the cake!

HSM: What do you see in the future for the club now? Are you going to focus more on machinima now that you have won this?

Ps3PartyCrew: Well, we have been putting a lot of our effort into doing these for the last six months or so. Yes, we will be doing many more films, as we love it, but we won’t be putting aside the rest of what we do as a group. There will still be parties and other events done in the coming months as well.

HSM: How many members do you have in the club now?

PS3PartyCrew: We have about one hundred fifty members on our website, and the club itself is full but there are a few who do most of the work where projects and events are concerned. Here is a list of them and what their roles are: Executive Producer Sicccre, Assistant Director Steph_da_killa,  Casting Manager Avalon88st_killa,  Promotions Manager Bigtell,  Manager of Actors and Models Department Vazman123, Graphics Department Manager Ras_lion,  Photography Department Manager Yakima94,  Official P-Crew Actors and Models,  Datkoolkidd300, Darietoosweet,  and Lamont112.

I love meeting people in Home who exemplify what can be accomplished with a little care and effort but also with the right attitude. This club does that outstandingly, and from what I have seen so far I think we can expect great things from them in the future as well.
