We all know how Home came to be the wonderful thing it is to each of us. Let’s suppose, however, it had another beginning. Suppose Home had a secret beginning. Just suppose someone other than Sony controlled home. Some power other than the great conglomerate we know. Suppose someone other than Sony had, through sheer magic and design, made it what it is today. Suppose they were still in control?

If you ever played Ultima II, then you remember Minax the Enchantress. In real life, we know that Home was created by a bunch of programmers for a major corporation. But what if it was a virtual fantasy world created by a sorceress living in a fantasy world?

I know, we’re going meta. But so what? It’s fun to fantasize.

In the year 978, in a castle, in the black woods of a black countryside; in a black borough of a black — ok enough of that.

In the year 1021, there lived a beautiful fiery sorceress: Dayna of Darketh. A sorceress of the 7th order of the 7th house of sorcery. She had long been the best at her craft. Her powers were extraordinary in strength and number. She excelled in all she undertook. So skilled was she that she had conquered all the lands north, south, east, and west of her realm. She had claimed everything. So doing had left her, dare I say it . . .

BORED.

She had tamed every dragon in her world, made every ogre her servant, every pixie her willing minion. Every human was now her vassal, including the minuscule king of the land. You get where I’m going with this right? No one challenged her, or even questioned her.

What she wouldn’t give for someone, anyone, to offer a little versatility once again. Yes, Dayna was indeed bored. So much so that she had taken to her castle alchemy room to try and find something (anything!) to liven up her doldrums life. Once there Dayna consulted the many tomes and books at her disposal. There had to be something, anything that could bring her a challenge and some excitement. Then one day while searching the tomes, there it was…

In a large dusty old tome, in her upper chamber,  Dayna found something on alchemy. She found a small mention of a fabled place that could be created.

Using her powers she surmised she could create something from nothing, something fantastic and never before conceived. She could control millions. There was no way she would be bored with millions of people to enthrall. She just had to get started…
