April 18 HomeCast

What’s in this episode:

Cutthroats | More Cutthroats | Even More Cutthroats | Clusterpuck | Aurora Update | New Novus Prime Outfits

I’ve been waiting for Home’s Killer App…the arcade-perfect port of Donkey Kong or the addictive gameplay of Angry Birds that would make Home a must-visit destination for gamers. There are already some excellent gaming experiences in Home; I’ll put Novus Prime, Blaster’s Paradise or Sodium 2 up against the best games on any system, but they all have something that’s vaguely equivalent elsewhere.

Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove is a step toward that Killer App I’ve been looking for. The gameplay is brilliant: Take four friends, put one at the wheel of a ship and the other three at gunner posts, and let them battle it out with several other ships. It’s inherently team-based and inherently social, the kind of experience that only Home can deliver, and it even features the brilliant touch of a random escape portal near the spawn point, to prevent griefers from simply strafing the docks.

A game this good deserves a special presentation, and that’s exactly what this episode delivers. The first four minutes of its extended runtime are all about Cutthroats, and there’s even some footage that developer Deuce_for2 was kind enough to share.  If you haven’t played Cutthroats, what are you waiting for? If you have, the question is where it goes from here.
